+allow editing replay gain values
Wouldn't "editing" be a bit pointless? I mean, ReplayGain is supposed to be a standardized setting that's supposed to be computed by a ReplayGain scanner, right? If you don't agree with your ReplayGain tags, you can still set a user-defined gain from the settings "DSP" tab, don't forget to check "Reset on new track" and then create a Saved Setting for this file.

Good evening.

As a follow-up to my post elsewhere, I was wondering if the Internet streaming timeout feature could be upgraded so that xmplay takes a longer time or makes more attempts to reconnect to a stream before marking it dead. Thank you for your attention.

I guess you're right; i just prefer RG edit because it's simpler and faster

Any opinion about adding a mute button on the skin?

Mute/Unmute is available via shortcuts and right-click on the volume slider but I don't see an option for a mute button on the skin.
I could well imagine a "button_mute.bmp" and corresponding mask entry...
Is that possible?

That would be my request.

I might just ask...
It would be nice to revamp the tag editing: right now you edit the data in the tagi if there's aa plugin that can do so.
But this meaning a lot of plugins needs to be duplicated with another that support tag editing.
What about a centralized tag editing plugin? Obviously some format don't have tags, but unifying the rest vould be good in my books.

Well, hello again.

I would like to suggest an additional checkbox option to the info bubbles. Currently the info bubbles show up if a new track begins. I think it would be rather good, if you'd add an option whether the info bubbles show at the beginning of cue marks too. It could be useful when using Audio-CD rips with cue files.

Best Regards,
Shanyy

I just tried that here, and title changes based on the CUE-file are shown in a tray title bubble as well. Is your XMPlay minimized to tray?

How feasible/bloaty would it be to have XMPlay (or a plugin..?) upmix stereo (or mono) files to all available speakers?

I currently am doing it the way you're supposed to, with DirectSound output, letting my soundcard (onboard Realtek) drivers do the dirty business. But as shite as they are, I barely get any sound from the rear normally until the song hits a point where it goes on a certain frequency or something, then I'll just get a sudden loud worbled phased filtered reverbed glitchy noise which barely has any resemblance to the song actually playing. Optimally (for me) it could just send front left speaker data to rear left and front right to rear right.

Or are there other methods to achieve what I'm after?

I've put the multichannel mixer on the list of suggestions a long time ago ;).

Actually, I'm not sure XMPlay currently allows plugins to output more channels than the original file has, and I can't really test that with my stereo setup. If (or when ;)) it does allow that, you could try the Winamp VST bridge (through the Winamp DSP wrapper) with an upmixing plugin, for example V.I stereo to 5.1 (freeware). Apparently that also does a lot more processing than just copying the channel data around.

Ah. Suppose it doesn't hurt to remind that people are considering torches and pitchforks for things such as these. ;D

Gave the wrapper -> vst bridge -> V.I combo a spin, doesn't look like it's cutting it. When I have the VST running, I do get noise from rear speakers, but XMP's track info still says that output is in stereo. Unsure if it reflects the change plugins might add, but couldn't tell that much of a difference. Tried to play an actual multichannel file with it enabled too, only heard the front channels. So far from optimal solution (if it even was doing something in the first place), unfortunately.

Sorry, a recent multi-monitor setting change screwed up the placement of the info bubbles.

Another question, is it possible to place the info bubbles elsewhere, other than the primary monitor? If it cannot be done currently, could it be implemented somedays? Lot of people use multi-display setups nowadays.

Best regards,

I've been loving the feature of automatically deleting songs from the playlist after they're played but that doesn't necessarily work well for internet radio entries and some special use cases. Would it be possible to mark playlist entries as "sticky" or "persistent" to protect them from auto-deletion without having to flip that feature off temporarily?

Here's an update for you to try...

   www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

It adds a mute button with mask index 28, and a "button_mute.bmp" (and optionally "button_mute_mini.bmp") bitmap for the muted state. Let me know if you have any trouble with it (I've not tried it yet myself).

The update above adds a "ReconnectAttempts" XMPLAY.INI option to set the number of reconnect attempts (the default is 1), eg. "ReconnectAttempts=3" would mean 3 attempts.

Yep. The update above adds a "Don't auto-remove" option to the track right-click menu, and a "List track - Don't auto-remove" shortcut too.

hello all,

I've been using XMPlay for about 6 years. I was slow to learn how to get the best out of it but it has always been a sweet player for me.

I've recently started recording audio files in DSD ( .DSF ) format. There is a shortage of software out there that can even play the files, never mind process them.

I'm wondering if XMPlay could be made to be able to play them. I've found an input plugin for Windows Media Player created by SONY that will convert DSD to PCM in real time as it's playing. I don't like Windows Media Player at all, I never use it.

I'd be thrilled to discover that I could click on DSD files in XMPlay and it would play them perfectly.

Best wishes, and thank you all very much for keeping this player bang up to the sweet spot.

Hi,

I wonder if there is a command line switch or DDE function to 'Restart' action in Close button menu ?
If not, can you add it ?

I've checked the DDE command list and didn't find it.

Thank you

I found this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/... Seems like the code is GPL'ed, so if someone is interested in porting it / writing a decoder plugin it may help.
Rest assured, I don't see an actual benefit from that standard, and blind tests seem to agree with me, so I'm -not- asking someone to make a input plugin. ;)
But I'm sure there's plenty of "audiophiles" out there that believe in Santa, ehm, think they can hear the impossible, so why not making them happy? XD

Here's an update that allows the "Download" option to be used on non-streamable files too...

   www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

The option has also been extended to allow extraction from archives, so it's now called "Download / Extract". Note non-streamable files aren't retained in memory after being parsed, so it's best to use the download option when opening the track rather than after it is already opened (the file will be re-downloaded in the latter case).
Thanks, so much, I hadn't checked the Un4seen site in a while so I didn't check till now, this is great.

The "Restart" option isn't currently available via DDE. Basically, anything that can have a shortcut is also available via DDE. I'll add it in the next update.

Thank you for the rely. I'll have a dabble with foobar and the GPL input for SACD.

I'm not yet convinced DSD is better either. It seems to have archival benefits though.

I've started using a sony pcm-d100 portable recorder. DSD format is an option with it. As the DSD is there from the start, there may well be a benefit. I'm sure a lot of SACD audio that reviewers have commented upon started out life as a PCM format file so those sounds are hardly likely to sound different. Sort of like making a wav file from a 32kbs mp3 and slating it for not sounding better.

I'm open to discovering for myself if there is an advantage to recording my nature sounds etc as DSD. The problem right now is that I can't even listen to the DSD recordings except for replaying them from within the D100 itself. They DO sound very good in my headphones!

Thanks again folks.

There's really not much (if any) practical value you gain from using DSD over PCM, so if I were you I'd stop recording DSD data instead of PCM. A lot of "sounds very good" magic is probably simply due to the fact that DSD uses a much higher sample rate than CD-quality PCM, but that can easily be achieved with PCM-based formats as well. And even if there are any actual advantages in using DSD, you will of course instantly lose them the moment you play those files with XMPlay because eventually everything is converted to PCM.

This may or may not be entirely on topic but ... am sitting here reading through the skinning kit text file, playing around with buttons, knobs and slider combinations and how they display, and have noticed that there are several knobs that mention replacing certain sliders that don't seem to (exist ?).
specifically..

.. 'reverb slider', 'eq slider', 'amp slider', 'pan separation slider' .. each of which use the "slider_horiz" or "slider_vert" if their alternates knobs haven't be created.

It also seems that the 'onoff.bmp' isn't applied to the loop track button or the z-order switch. (not that it's a big deal)

If you're willing to look at these, possibly create the missing ones, maybe a reverb knob as well ... (for the sake of other skinners?) .. that'd be swell .. elsewise .. yeah .. (thinking in text again) .. thanks for the excellent work.

I see there has actually been a "slider_amp.bmp" option since 3.3.0.6 that isn't mentioned in the skinning kit; I've added a mention of that now. The update above adds the missing "slider_eq.bmp" and "slider_pansep.bmp" options, and applies the "onoff" bitmap to the panel z-order switch. The "onoff" bitmap isn't applied to the track looping switch as the "button_loop.bmp" bitmap isn't optional (it's needed to provide "on" and "auto" states), so on/off lights can be included in there if wanted. I haven't tested these changes yet myself, so let me know if you find any of it isn't working properly.

Thanks Ian ... seems you may have forgotten to mention those two new ones and the newest mute button in the txt though.

The onoff appears correct with the z-order switch , the new pansep slider appears correct, and the new eq slider works properly for eq , but not for a reverb slider that's 90 degrees different. Why no reverb slider and knob?

When adding folders to the library, it'd be nice if it added any music that are in subfolders as well.  ;D
