Sorry to bump an old post, but I was looking for how XMPlay downmixes multi-channel tracks, and am also interested in the matrix or downmix algorithm.
This was the closest thread I could find. Apologies if I should have just started a new thread.

The 5.1 to 2.0 matrix would look like this:
L R C LFE LS RS
L = 1.0 0.0 0.7 0.7 1.0 0.0
R = 0.0 1.0 0.7 0.7 0.0 1.0
If the "Adjust level" option is enabled then the values would all be lowered to avoid/reduce clipping.
