1  Developments / XMPlay / Re: Album and Cover Art Vis Plugin - with auto download (xmp-coverart rev.6) on: 24 Apr '10 - 06:05
I also had the problem so far, that the plugin didn't show embedded pictures, only the one in the directory of the soundfile.
So I checked "Way Up In Glory Land"..
Confirmed. XMPlay doesn't show the image.

Then I opened the file with "MP3tag" and the gospel choir showed up.
I think I found a workaround, because after I saved the tag again with MP3tag, XMPlay shows it correctly.

(thanks for rearranging this thread) but yes, sorry for nagging, but I still have problems with it.

(Let me emphasize, that this is relevant for an offline stuation with local graphic files, I don't download cover art.)

I used 'MP3tag' to embed pictures in an OGG file, and neither an integrated JPG or PNG is shown.
If there is no specific bitmap file in the same dir, visualisation shows the : "No Album Cover" frame.

If there are bitmap files in the dir, XMPlay shows the first one in the order, but another peculiar behaviour appears :

If the first one is a PNG, it is skipped, and the first JPG as next file is shown.
Only when there are no JPG files, the PNG one will show up.

xmp-coverart can already load coverart from MP4, MP3 and FLAC, as I said before
My apologies for bumping this subject more than once. Memory leakage I presume.  Embarrassed

It's already possible with the CoverArt plugin to show a bitmap while playing an album.
Very nice, but still a bit primitive because the plugin scans for the first image in the current directory and that's it.

Now, one can add, for example with the app MP3tag editor, a bitmap to a single track.
This is embedded in the tag of the file, not being an external source.
Afaik this cannot be done with MP3, but with the OGG or FLAC format it works fine.

It would be nice if XMPlay was able to read this data and present it as a visual option.

If the Coverart plugin is chosen for visualisation, XMPlay shows the first bitmap it can find in the current directory.
Since tag editors are able to embed pictures in a single OGG or FLAC file, it would be nice if this would be showed, as property of the track.
Foobar2000 is already able to do this.

It would be elegant to have an option to have a small fade out when pressing the stop key in the middle of a song.

7  Developments / XMPlay / Re: Saving multichannel WAV output on: 23 Dec '09 - 04:50
saga is right about the S91 command, it's just a quasi-effect and of no use for a real quad version.
But nevertheless, OMPT is capable of making discrete quad files :

With IT files, the General tab has a 'Surround' button for each channel. These determine the layout of the exported quad WAV.
If this button is enabled, then that channel is mixed into tracks 3 and 4.
(regarding the S91 command : it should not be present in the patterns, because it produces a wrong quad file)

As an example, I exported a short version to 16-bit quad WAV, then converted to OGG :
http://www.samshuijzen.nl/sam/arch/e_mods3/Foregone4s.ogg
With a four channel system sound configuration XMPlay will perform such a file correctly, using four discrete channels.

Thanks. I know enough.

The source is multichannel, but maybe there can be confusion whether the output is multichannel or not.

It's not done with one multichannel soundcard, but with two seperate stereo-devices.
One is onboard, the other one is an external USB card.

Both are recognized in the list of output devices, by choice with or without DS. Got ASIO4all as well.
But with any combination, it doesn't work. Outputs 3 and 4 stay silent.

One can find my example file (OGG version) here

It seems that XMPlay recognizes multichannel WAVs according to the WAVE FORMAT EXTENSIBLE standard.
But I'm not capable of setting extra output devices in XMPlay to play those properly.
Using a simple quad-WAV as an example.
Is this a windoze problem, or XMPlay ?

A serious bug in stuff 3.4.2.113 around the Message button.
Since the last used button, General or Message, is saved in a session, it has two ways of opening again.

1. if General is on, one can play a song, but as soon as the Message button is pressed, XMPlay is gone.
2. if Message is on, XMPlay crashes when the play button is pressed.

Maybe asked before, but
If I want to stop playing somewhere along a track, it would be nice to have a short fade-out, before the actual stop.
JetAudio has this option, and it works quite elegant.

Yep, a correct description.
And this thread is a very nice clue. Thanks.
Because when I just set the sound device as output setting, without Direct Sound, the problem is gone.
I have the DS plugin installed, so hopefully, as he says there, Ian can provide a debugged version.

Version replaced by 3.4.2.72. No improvement.
To be precise about this : If I stop the playing first, then move the slider to a further position, no problem.
If stopping with Pause, a slider move continues wrong also.

EDIT - Hm, I noticed that I should have posted this in the 3.4 reports..

So far tested with MP3 - OGG - WAV. Same behaviour.

Using XMPlay 3.4.2.39
If the song is playing, and I shift the slider on the time-bar a portion to the right, and drop it,
the playback speed suddenly becomes very high.

Great !! Thanks.
I wasn't aware of this middle mouse button menu.
And in non-fullscreen mode the cover is nicely stretched too, the other way..

A more simple issue about the cover art function :
I can use the fullscreen function with F11, but if an image is smaller than the screen, it doesn't try to fill the screen.
Neither vertical or horizontal. Couldn't find a shortcut for this.
