Windowing the sinc function removes the ringing. Here's an example Smiley

Plain sinc interpolation...

Could be fun to play with... I may well look into it for 2.8 (2.7 is already overdue Smiley)

If you use Winamp (or another player that supports winamp 2.x dsp plugins) besides XMPlay you can try it

Speaking of DSP plugins... Winamp2 DSP plugins are integer only (with the vast majority also likely to be 16-bit only), which isn't really much good for XMPlay (it would mean a reduction in quality when using a DSP plugin).

I'd be willing to create an XMPlay DSP plugin system, if the demand is there - that means people wanting to actually create plugins, not only use them Smiley

Please upload the first MB of the file, and I'll have a look at it...

I'll email you the 2.7 beta to see if you can reproduce the problem with that.

13925  Developments / XMPlay / Re: Bug (v2.7): Offset Start on: 18 May '03 - 17:37
I think that's probably driver related (what soundcard/Windows do you have?) - is there a delay when you adjust the volume? If so, the volume could be down initially, and the gap is just the delay in the volume being set.

Here's a WAV file to try - http://un4seen.com/stuff/pulse.wav - it has a very short (10ms) pulse, and then silence. See if you can hear the pulse. And then check the spectrum display - you should see the pulse there, which means the beginning is not being chopped... not by XMPlay anyway Smiley

Hi Ian  Smiley i'm just wondering how long do we have to wait for the next release of xmplay  Cool

Shouldn't be more than a few days... metaphorically, just crossing the t's and dotting the i's now Smiley

Hmm.. Well, you could of course find the characters from the net and copy-paste them

Tricky Grin ... anyway, it's sorted now.

Quote
So my suggestion: How about displaying the hours seperately?

I'll look into it.

Ian, about those 'ä's 'ö's and so on.. You can easily try it with any mp3 yourself. Just add any of these characters to the end of the title or artist field in ID3v2...

But I don't have any of those characters on my keyboard - makes it a bit tricky to try this Smiley

Quote
An idea would be to include the bit/sample rate in the track settings (as you want MP3s at the actual rate, and MODs at a higher rate).

The sample rate setting only applies to MODs anyway.

200 posts!!! Who'da thought that it would reach that many. Looking back, the first post was Janurary this year, and there's nearly 4 months worth of posts here. Maybe we're trying to tell Ian something here Grin

Yep. People keep requesting more stuff, so it's your own faults Tongue ... The 2.7 "History" section is getting pretty big now though, so I think it is about time for release... hopefully soon Smiley

maybe it'd be good to have a key for editing the info, without playing the file Smiley.

A 'shift+W' shortcut has now been added for that.

Quote
I noticed that character '&' doesn't show right in the track/artist name, in the popup info that's seen when the player is in tray and cursor is moved upon it.

This was mentioned in one of the other threads... already sorted Smiley

Quote
I also noticed that when being the last character(s) in ID3v2 tag, at least characters 'å', 'ä', 'ö' and 'ø' don't show up at all. When they are in the middle of a word, they show up ok. It may include other special characters too.

Please upload an example file or two to have a look at.

Quote
This last one is really weird.. I bumped into an mp3 that refuses to obey the main volume control. I first thought it was some bug in XMPlay, that it stopped responding to the volume, but then I found out that it only affects that one track. I've never even heard of any file that would have this kind of a problem Huh, but I'll upload it to your ftp. [modified] Just noticed that the file is in mono, which is pretty unusual, but it couldn't just be that mono-mp3s don't follow the main volume, huh? Oh, and the filename is "ATB - Sunburn.mp3".

Not sure what the problem is, but it's working fine here Smiley ... can you try the file on another system, to confirm if it's something funky with your system?

Quote
Perhaps you could "add support", in this manner, for the four-figures too, because playlists with more than a thousand tracks aren't so unusual these days

I'll look into it.

Hmm.. Pressing 'w' doesn't seem to be doing anything here Huh.

Oh right, you mean with files in the list Smiley ... 'W' is for the currently opened file.

Also, rather than the current "page-flipping" of patterns, it would be way cooler if they scrolled smoothly by Smiley

Click the middle mouse button, or press 'S'.

Hey, that's a nice suggestion Smiley. Why not make it possible to open all the different info tabs in their own windows? It should be pretty easy to implement as a right click -feature (well I'm not a programmer, but considering Ian's skills and all.. Wink).

Some of the trickiest code (and probably most hacky Cheesy) in XMPlay is the window Z-ordering... adding more windows would make it even more tricky and hacky Smiley

Quote

I have a suggestion:
How about a way to bookmark exactly where you stopped listening to a track.
This would be really helpful for listening to downloaded talk shows or long mix sets so you could go right back if the player was closed for some reason - better than just pausing it!

Not a bad idea... I'll add an option to resume playback on startup, from where it left off on exitting the last time.

Seems that it's time for me to create one really awesome skin.

Nice one. I can send a beta version of 2.7 to work with if you like. There are a few new little skinning options, which could maybe help with that really awesome skin Cheesy

Fix the OGG gapless play bug (yes it's a bug - the OGG specification from Monty supports it so if it's not implemented properly then it's a bug).

Not to quibble over semantics, but that's not a bug.

Just because a codec doesn't introduce it's own delay, doesn't mean the playback absolutely must have no gap between tracks. The small gap is due to XMPlay waiting for the current track to finish (and then releasing it's resources) before opening the next one, not because of some bug in the OGG implementation.

That's not to say that gapless playback won't be added (I intend to look into it), just that it's not a "bug" not to be gapless Smiley

... we are saving the recordings as 24bit encoded .wav files.

Winamp is playing those fine, but XMPlay won't. Trying various wav codecs to make XMPlay handling those wav's
didn't bring us success. Maybe this would be an option to improve.

So this is my suggestion for the 2.7 version of this fine player.

Support for 24 and 32-bit WAVs has already been added for 2.7 Smiley

Yea... Would be cool if Ian could include the TTFs in the xmpskin files and directly load them from there....

That was originally planned, but then I figured there could be copyright problems... I thought, who's going to create their own TTF font, apart from you of course Grin

But the option can be added, if the masses demand it Smiley

Lots of suggestions flying around.. nice Smiley. I've only got one right now: could the global hotkeys be shown with language, like shift, plus, minus etc. instead of these codes? Would make it easier to see later, what you've actually set there Smiley.

I'll look into it, but I'm not sure it's possible to do 100% - I think some keys may be ok, and others not.

I suggest implementation of the S3M/IT effect "S9F" which reverts playback of a sample. eg. use this on a snare drum and the sample is played backwards.

That's not a standard S3M/IT effect (it's an MPT-only thing), but I'll look into it.

but I still would like it to be able to play my IT files properly.

Gonna need a little more to go on Cheesy

Also when double cliking a file, XMPLAY start but not begin to play immediately ... something need to be done?

If you've got the "LIST" option enabled ("Integration" panel), then make sure you've also got the "Play listed tracks" option enabled (right-click "LIST").

Quote
Well. Tongue

It's still low priority Grin

Quote

When one shuffles the playlist, could you make it so that it checks the first letter of the filename and makes sure that the next file in the shuffled list is not the same as the previous.  I store all my filenames as "Artist - Title.ext", and notice that I have large blocks (five or six songs) of the same artist.

Is that with the beta I sent you recently? The shuffle option was made faster in that version, but possibly less random. I've since changed it again, so that it's fast and random Smiley

Ian, I see you're defending the skins a lot when some feature like a bigger EQ with more bands, or extra interpolation settings (both good ideas IMHO!), would require a change.  Think about it, do you really want to hinder development of xmplay because of a skin?  Is that the most important thing about xmplay?

Nope, skins are certainly not the main priority. If an important new feature requires a skin modification, then so be it - for example, the global hotkeys.

But I will try to avoid skin modifications when possible (eg. put new options in a right-click menu), simply because it makes sense to do so Smiley
