OK, "close" and "close with position saved" are different things. Was it like this in 3.4?

Well, it's 3.5.0.5 now.

But when I use the shortcut key to close XMPlay and start it again, the playback position isn't restored. In fact, every file is unloaded. Can anyone confirm this?

Recent versions stopped displaying specs in old skins like Bonjour_BS2000.

Your best bet is probably BonkEnc. Still, some characters in the tag get lost here and there, but at least there is no error dialog. After that, export tag info from the original files and import it to the newly created files, using Mp3Tag or something.
