But I still hunting a good icon/association program that won't mess with the registry. Do you know any?

How do you think that Windows keeps track about file/icon associations?

Yes, the commands are at a DOS (or "command" prompt) and use the capabilities of the copy command to concatenate files.  The /b parameter specifies that the action takes place as "binary" as in non-text data.  You just have to be in the same directory (folder) as the files you wish to process.  You can get more info if you ask for help at the command prompt, as in "copy /?" or "copy /h" or "copy /help" or "help copy" (depending on the version of Windows you are running).  Oh... the command "exit" closes the session and returns you to the clicky-comfort of Windows.

These Secret INI settings should be in XMPlay.ini that comes with the program (but they can be commented out). Would save some time for new users to have to find the settings on the internet and add them manually.

Adding all the secret settings with default value is suggested in the Illustrated Manual Section 6.2 - Secret INI settings for experienced users:

Quote
Put them all there:
Some of the cutting edge users intentionally put all of the "secret" settings (each with the default value) into the xmplay.ini file even if they don't intend to modify the setting.  If they want to experiment later, they can see the setting's correctly-spelled name and change from the default value on that line.

Some of the settings are common enough where placement in the default ini might be a good idea (SingleClickTray comes to mind), but many are so obscure that you'd have to know what you were doing to even mess with it (hence the "cutting edge users" and "experiment" comments).

Even so, it has been some time since someone asked if they could configure the tray icon clicking performance.  That tells me that the information we are currently providing (and the methodology) is working.

The Illustrated Manual Section 6.2 - Secret INI settings was updated on 2013 April 20 through stuff version 3.7.0.30.

Updated Items:
StartInTray - [3.7.0.30 and later] StartInTray=1 forces XMPlay to always start in tray

The entire list of "secret settings" with more detailed descriptions and pertinent forum links, is available in the Illustrated Manual Section 6.2 - Secret INI settings.

That did the trick.

Thanks!

Uh... the multi-2 gives me dim play or dim pause.  No orange.

During first startup or buffering after extended pause, it shows the dim play/pause image.

Funny thing is that I can switch to version 1.4 and it never shows the play/pause image, even on first startup or after extended pause.

I'm getting a result that I'm not expecting.
Using WTF 1.5 large to listen to streaming internet radio.
Using multi-2 pause button bmp.

1.  Listening to radio with any skin.
2.  Switch to WTF 1.5.  Music keeps playing.  See single dim pause image.
2.  Hit pause.  See single dim play image.
3.  Hit play.  See single dim pause image.

1.  Now hit pause for longer than the buffer.  See single dim play image.  Hit play.
2.  See button change to image of both play and pause.
3.  Wait for buffer?  Music starts and image changes to single dim pause image.

This image of both play and pause also shows when first starting XMPlay with WTF 1.5 active, until the buffer fills and the music starts, then it changes to single dim pause image.

Hopefully it's a win for Rick, he needs the money! Wink

So the plan is:

1. Get a free program become open source
2.  ?
3.  profit

Forgive me, I just don't understand.

From the tone of your announcement, I guess you view this as a "win".

So you intend to implement other features in a fork, and people will have to know which version to run to get the desired effects?

Who is going to coordinate this effort?

I guess you're the spokeserson?

Will this forum still be available, or are you going to take over that, too?

@Jimmy .. you must have one heck of a high contrast monitor ...

Naah.  1920x1080 23" monitor at 200%.  Even using onboard video with shared memory.  I just ordered a video card with dual outputs to stick into the box so I can eventually drive two monitors.

The Windows 8 magnification tool is pretty neat and the pixels don't get bad until higher magnification (above 200%).  I mostly plan on my desktop but I teach a computer class a couple of times a month for the residents of our 55+ community.  I hook my laptop up to our 110" projection TV system and have to magnify the display so they can see what's on the screen. Today's topic is "backing up" and we'll cover what to back up, and demonstrate methods ranging from internal hard drive copy to CD/DVDs to flash drives to external hard drives to various cloud services.  Discuss pros and cons of each method (speed, security, protection against hazards, crashes, lost/stolen, etc).  Real basic stuff.

I was working on the Magnification feature of Windows 8 for a demo, and noticed something with the WTF skin.  Directly above the volume there's a dark black bar that follows with the orange volume indicator.  This is against a light black area of the skin, so it isn't too noticeable, but now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it.

When I started looking closely, I noticed that the when the EQ panel was pulled out, there is an area to the left of the orange +10 and -10 indicators that is jagged dark black to light black.

I'm not sure if these are intended or not.

Then what happens when a new option is introduced? Remake all skins? Force skins to leave room for new options? New options are not available in older skins?

I'm trying to think of the system that used it (maybe on the Palm?) where there were default files were built in, and if the equivalent file existed in the new skin/config/whatever, it would be activated instead of the default.  That way, the base program would always work as downloaded, and personalizations could be swapped in by the user.

NB: I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

I've downloaded the skin a couple of times, and can extract all of the skin files correctly.

The only thing I see when I try to switch to the skin is a Windows dialog box that says "Can't Load Skin" with a big red X.

Running Windows 8 x64, with XMPlay 3.7.0.28 and screen resolution of 1920x1080.

You did see the part where I said I agreed with you?

Hey Xaos, I believe that you are right.  The user should be able to control the flashing.  That's what NoFlashPause is for right now.  I think Ian is envisioning a time where NoFlashPause won't exist anymore because the issue is addressed in the skin.  Maybe there will be a way for the user to configure or control the skin much like rainmeter.  Maybe not, and the skin could have flash and noflash versions.  I dunno.  I just know that this issue isn't the end of the internet or planet or anything.

Can we all step back for a couple of days?  Please?

No, I don't. But that's not really much of an age indicator either Tongue
Don't really need one for the internet, right?

Why is the default volume set to 100%?
I think that's the best choice for a default setting. It may be too loud for certain configurations, but the default never suits everyone.

It certainly got my attention.
