1  Developments / XMPlay / Re: Is there a way to disable these (annoying/dangerous) XMPlay "features" ? on: 1 Jul '11 - 10:46
Pike84 - surely that will disable mousewheel volume control altogether? Oddiofile is saying that he wants it still to work when the pointer is over the volume slider.

I'm running the stable version of Wine, 1.01. The only two skins which function well in full mode are Euphoria and A-Round. I tried your iXMPlay mod, thanks, but unfortunately the skin malfunctions quite badly here, and so does the WMP mod.

The main problem I find with running XMPlay under Wine is that very few skins work properly in full mode: the various skin components (main window, playlist window, etc) are overlaid one on top of the other on the desktop and cannot be separated. So if the purpose of this modified version is to make XMPlay more compatible with Wine, please consider investigating that problem, which still arises with this version. Many thanks.

Congratulations to all concerned in this always constructive and friendly enterprise.

The most striking thing in the above statistics is the number of forum members, as compared with the number we know of from their posts. Talk about tips of icebergs.

Please allow me to add my appreciation for what you bring to this forum and to the continuing progress of this fine player.

They look like two quite different requests to me - no connection between them at all. But no doubt the various contributors will soon return to clear the matter up.

I believe Dotpitch was responding to SmartOne's request, not miki's.

The popups in the DSP options window are actually using a standard Windows feature, unlike XMPlay's "bubbles". When the popup is displayed, the default is to show the slider's current position, but Windows will first ask the app if it wants to provide its own text (which XMPlay does). I had a look myself, and it looks like WINE doesn't currently do that.

Can't say fairer than that! Thanks for looking into it. As I mentioned, it's easy enough to live with.

That's strange, the slider popup should show the dB level. What Windows version are you using?

I'm running XMPlay in Linux, under Wine. Equalizer levels are displayed as dB in slider popups in skins (including the default), in case that's relevant. Sorry, it hadn't occurred to me that this aspect of the player's behaviour might be OS-related.

The update above will show the level when moving the slider (you can just hold the mouse down on the slider to see the current level).

Thanks for this. It's slightly confusing that different numerical scales are used for the left-hand axis and for the slider popups (e.g. +3dB = 14), but I guess I can live with that.

11  Developments / XMPlay / Re: LiteB - new skin for XMPlay on: 26 Apr '11 - 18:21
Perhaps I failed to make myself clear. I prefer skins whose mini mode is not a 'stick', and whose colours match my desktop (light blue and off-white). Neutron misses the mark on both counts. At the moment the only three skins which come close are XLXM, Blueish and the default skin.

Would it be possible for the equalizer, as it appears in Options & stuff, to display the numerical value of the current setting for each band, please? Also, I'd like to second the request made by Dotpitch earlier in this thread, that 0.1dB increments be available on scrolling with the mouse. Many thanks.

I like the full mode of this skin (blue variant), but it's disappointing to find that the mini mode is yet another 'stick', leaving nothing to choose between this skin and several others.

14  Developments / XMPlay / Re: Using XMPlay under WINE. on: 2 Mar '10 - 20:07
I find that using any of the "one-piece" skins (e.g. Windows Classic) ameliorates some of the GUI problems.

My main headache is that the playing of streaming audio appears to be disabled; so far I've been unable to figure out why.

Skin compilation is carried out by Ian on request. But the request would probably have to come from the skin's author. So I guess the best move would be to flag your interest up here in the hope that Ben Laufer sees it. I imagine he checks into the forum now and again, although he hasn't posted very recently. Alternatively, I see that an email address is given in his forum membership information, although it may or not be current.

Actually, what I think would be really good would be a new default skin with a larger playlist panel, if any creative types have itchy fingers Wink

Does it have to be a new skin, I wonder? What about Ben Laufer's Neutron, for instance? In general, if there were to be a skins contest as before I would suggest that authors should be entitled to enter their existing work.

There are BASS-based players for linux [...].

Please help me identify these players - they seem rather hard to find. None of the items in Ian's BASS showcase looks to be a full-fledged player. Many thanks.

cerealkiller - I like your new skin a lot, but I wonder if you would consider making the blue in the windows a little less saturated, please? Many thanks.

For anyone that is currently using the "pre-amp" option, is that still needed with this new option?

Please help me understand how the two options relate to each other. Many thanks.

Replay gain still works fine here with the updated plugin.
