Sure the average user may not tell a difference but for those who can and have the equipment that allows them to actually hear a difference SoX is the way to go... this point can not be disputed.
If you prefer SoX, that's fine with me. But to make good use the algorithm, SoX will have to be an external library (it's LGPL'ed), so the DSP plugins will need to be allowed to change the sample rate and bit depth (and while we're at it, the number of channels as well) of the audio stream. Since the average user won't notice any difference from the current resampling methods, I doubt this will be high on Ians priority list.
