What kind of internal resampling algorithm does XMPlay use at the highest quality setting?  8-point sinc?
The quality slider offers several presets, but there's no indication of the type of algo used for each of those presets.

It would be nice if we could use the SoX resampler in a plug in.....this seems to be the best software upsampler around.

I'd love to be able to use this plugin with XMPlay:

Ultra high quality and low CPU usage - much better than SSRC, PPHS, Secret Rabbit Code or anything else.

Best bang for your CPU time Smiley

Search the forum...
All 6 settings use the same method, but take a different number of input samples to produce each output sample. The lowest setting takes 4 samples, and that doubles for each step up, all the way up to 128 samples at the highest setting. Of course, the CPU usage also increases with the number of samples. The 2nd level is approximately the same quality as in previous versions (8 samples used).

Thats fine Dot....but no need to re-invent the wheel here.  SRC was the premier upsampler for a long time and still is very good, however SoX has the algorithm to beat.  SoX is indeed THE algorithm you want to use if you are serious about upsampling sound quality.  Sure the average user may not tell a difference but for those who can and have the equipment that allows them to actually hear a difference SoX is the way to go....this point can not be disputed.

I have come to realize that its not what you ask, but how you ask it.....many times people get defensive or go into automatic contrarian mode and just respond to any request or any suggestion to the contrary without actual cause.  This may be one of those cases.

I never tried to, I merely gave oddiophile an answer.

If you prefer SoX, that's fine with me. But to make good use the algorithm, SoX will have to be an external library (it's LGPL'ed), so the DSP plugins will need to be allowed to change the sample rate and bit depth (and while we're at it, the number of channels as well) of the audio stream. Since the average user won't notice any difference from the current resampling methods, I doubt this will be high on Ians priority list.

Btw, as a member, you can edit your post, rather than double-posting Wink.

I dont think its going to be on Ians list at all frankly Grin

I have a Hardware upsampler for the occasion, but I normally dont upsample at all... Tongue

Anyways I only came here to ask about an iTouch remote app, I should not have even been involved in any other discussions, I will leave you guys to yourselves.
