Ficedula DirectMusic plugin for Winamp
« on: 14 Aug '09 - 16:56 »
Is there any chance this plugin will become compatible with xmplay? It says when I'm loading it: the plugin is using it's own output and therefore won't work with xmplay.

One can use it to playback ff7(pc), hitman(pc), empire earth and La-Mulana .sgt music

Or should I just contact the author @ http://www.sylphds.net/f2k3/ about him making it xmplay compatible?

If the plugin handles the output itself, you cannot apply any DSP or resampling to it with XMPlay. You should ask the author to change it :).

well, the best would be (for me) a native directmusic plugin for xmplay... or a power up to the midi one. but I guess it's be improbable...

Isn't DirectMusic being phased out or something? Why do you want to use it?

@raina: well, it's not that I want to USE directmusic extensively. It's like an "exotic" format I have some use for. In detail, I like listening to some final Fantasy 8 music in a (infinite) loop. With the OST Cd I can't do it (obviously) so I used a player, but lost it :P, and winamp+plugin... not really my choice (and that plugin handles the output itself, so no use in XMPlay). That's why I'm interested in .sgt reproduction (along with some other few file format); it shouldn't be much different from MIDI or mods, but I guess there's patent around the corner, so my hopes are rather low.

You can make Final Fantasy VIII PSFs loop forever in Highly Experimental.  What's special about the PC version format?

Well, nothing special about the PC version, I have this one for PC, so it's .sgt. Btw, there are better soundfonts than the default one. ;)

So you want to use fancy soundfonts with the sequences.  Gotcha.

Hm, I can't find said plugin on the Internet Archive version of the website found in the first post, and the Winamp plugin database seems to be nuked from winamp.com...? Does anyone still have this plugin? I'd like see if it could play the SGT files from Hitman: Codename 47.

Nope. doesn't work at all as intended, unless if you want to achieve a beautiful crash on Winamp
