3.5 reports, queries and bugs
« on: 13 Jan '10 - 22:17 »
We have a new suggestions thread . We should have this one too...

There seems to be a problem with the shortcut "List nav - select same path". Is it suppose to be the same as "locate same folder" in the right click menu? The right click menu option works fine but when using the shortcut xmplay doesn't do nothing or crashes.

Oops, that shortcut was broken when the rating shortcuts were added (in 3.5.0.1). Here's an update to fix it again...

That looks like there may have been a buffer overflow when looking up CDDB info. I'll send you a debug version to confirm things.

The output device dropdown box appears to cut device names down to 32 chars. Dunno if this is a limitation of the WinAPI or XMPlay...

What type of file did you play and what output device (WaveOut/DS/ASIO/WASAPI) did you use? Are you very sure XMPlay did not have any plugins loaded (especially not xmp-scrobbler)?

Yay, new XMPlay!

Middle-clicking a track in the extended playlist to queue it is broken: instead of selecting the track underneath the mouse pointer, middle-clicking selects the track at the bottom of the window and queues that. Double-left-clicking and right-clicking works correctly. In the mini playlist, middle-clicking queues the currently selected track, not the track underneath the pointer.

Tested in XMPlay 3.5.0.5. I'm running Windows XP SP3, and using the Microsoft IntelliMouse drivers v4.12.

You're using ASIO, so you did have plugins loaded. Create a new folder, put xmplay.exe in it (and nothing else) and try playing the file. Does it work? If it does, add xmp-asio and try playing via ASIO4all. Does it still work?
Another thing, do you have xmp-scrobbler? Delete xmp-scrobbler.cache and try playing a different file. If it works, go back to the troublesome file. Does it still crash?

It works normally here (XP SP3, 3.5.0.5), so I guess it's your mouse driver. Does the driver provide some fancy functions that might confuse XMPlay? Does middle-clicking on the visual window (for example with xmp-coverart) work properly?

The mouse driver provides button remapping, and does something with the scroll wheel to make it work in programs that don't natively understand it... hmm. Yep, adding XMPlay to the exclusion list fixes it.

I doubt that. Could you try what I suggested?

Slight rendering problems on the "Message" tab on certain lengthy "Comment" tag.

(The comment field is copied from the file where I spotted it and pasted to a much smaller mp3 to save up on bandwidth usage. ;D
So the comment field has nothing to do with the mp3 itself, or the other tags. Just in case it baffles someone.)

The problematic tag-file.

What exactly is the problem with this tag? It seems to display properly here. Maximum text width?

Hm. That made me doublecheck something, as my compy occasionally has problems with rendering stuff (like webpage backgrounds and occasionally other odd stuff), never had affected XMP in a way like this. Took a screeny of what was going on, that's showing the General tab content, plus results of resizing the window.
Closing few other programs showed that that was indeed the case. I think it's because the area it covered was too large. Really wish I knew what's causing this.. Best guess is that something runs out of something. Probably gfx-card. But yeah, not XMP's issue. Pardon about that. :P

3.5.1 and 3.5.1.1 (with xmp-flac rev. 7) seem to crash on every FLAC I try to play. :(

EDIT: ...Aaand neither of those components are the culprit because with just them, the problem is gone. I thought I'd have a painful time trying to find the offender but being such a clever chap, I disabled the most recently added plugin and it doesn't crash anymore. The problem was xmp-asap found at http://asap.sourceforge.net/ .

Can you post more information about your computer's specification? With me, the updates only ran faster and more stable.

Does the Winamp-version of the plugin have the same problem?

Like I said the problem wasn't with XMPlay or xmp-flac but xmp-asap. The problem is now gone.

[oes the Winamp-version of the plugin have the same problem?

I haven't tried it. I just threw the plugin away because it couldn't even play its intended filetype .rmt but instead crashed just like with the .flacs it hogged.

I placed xmplay.exe and xmp-ds.dll into empty catalogue, launched xmplay.exe then call Options&stuff.
Clicking Output menu option cause xmplay to crash. Extending (+)Output menu tree into Encoders; Direct Sound is Ok.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Soundcard: NVIDIA HDMI Audio

Crashlog:
...

From that log, the DS plugin appears to have crashed when XMPlay asked it to provide the device names for the device list. I'm not sure how that could have happened though, so I think I will have to send you a debug version for some clues.

As far as this problem remains in 3.5.1, I mention it again.
Ian, please send me debug version to my updated email (or post a link).
The one I mentioned in my profile during first registration was discontinued.

Good luck.

There is/was a bug in the initial release of the new xmp-asap plugin, but I believe the author has fixed it for the next release.

in_mod 2.2.10 beta 29 doesn't work correctly - doesn't play 669-modules.  Tested on XMP 3.5.1.o and 3.5.1.1. Under XMPlay 3.4.2 works perfect...

Is there a difference to how hotkeys/shortcuts are loaded at XMPlay startup and when the Shortcuts page on Options and stuff is shown/loaded?

As I've another prog which uses the global hotkey (cannot be changed/disabled, but I never need that one) for a keycombo I prefer to use for volume up in XMPlay. When the player loads, it won't work. But once I've looked at the Shortcuts page and closed it, the global hotkey works without problems.

Could we/I maybe get a hidden xmplay.ini feature for making it load 'em on start like they are after viewing the list? Presuming this kind of feature would be undesired by the masses.

Wasn't sure if this should've gone here or the 3.6 suggestion thread. But reckoned this is more of a query than anything else, so here it went. ;)

OSH: Are we talking about the in_mod mikmod plugin from winamp here? Seriously, why do you use it? Mikmod is a pile of... yeah, you know what.
