Thanks Ian, for posting the files ahead of time - so we can preview and enjoy what's in the 'pipe-line'. And thanks Keltic for putting together some new skins. XMplay should look as good as it sounds. Just as long as it doesn't turn into bloated Winamp, or worse... iTunes. [Update:] I know this is a 'test' version only, but I found a not-so-minor glitch in trying it out. I don't know if this a skinning issue or not, but when I right-clicked on the open-file button to select a directory it crashed the program with an "invalid page fault in shell32.dll". (Please don't tell me I need to upgrade to Win7). Aside from that, no other glaring issues so far. The skins look fantastic btw.

It may appear that those lower bands are magnified more than the others, but all of the bands are actually equally magnified (to make lower level stuff show up more clearly). You can confirm that by playing a frequency sweep, like this... www.un4seen.com/stuff/16khz-sweep.oggYou'll probably want to turn your speakers off before playing that, and also disable dynamic auto-amp. Note the level is constant across all of the bands. Thanks! I knew there had to be something like this available.

I've modified the font a little to handle cleartype being disabled a bit nicer, ttfs are a little bit fiddly though so if this fix doesn't work all round I might just scrap it entirely and make a bitmap font.

I've been listening to online radio, and playing with the skins. I noticed that the WAModern skin main screen handles elapsed times up to 99:59 but the mini screen goes up to 999:59. Seems just a bit odd for the mini to have more digits displayed than the large one.

Since its not possible to have the shadowy digit effect where the time is in the main display I faked it best I could for eye candy purposes consequence is only allowing 4 numbers. Dilemma I have is either.... - 1. Make 6 digit shadows for the times there's over an hour, reduce font size a bunch.
If the user has .Nth's of a second turned off manually it'll look bizarre.
- 2. Make 5 digit shadows for the times there's over an hour, reduce font sizea little.
If the user has DOESN'T have .Nth's of a second turned off manually it'll look even more bizarre.
- 3. Get rid of the digit shadows all together, reduce the font size a bunch to fit all 6 digits in.
I guess this'd work, would be a shame as I think it looks neat otherwise.
- 4. Something I haven't thought of
I'm open to suggestion.

4. Don't know, but maybe reduce the number of digits on the mini to match the main? Honestly, most people would never see or need the the numbers that large and if they did, they probably wouldn't be running in mini-mode. Exact elapsed time doesn't have much significance for radio like it might for a regular song. It was just an observation really, to show I was paying attention Probably a continuation of my desire to find a good skin for use with radio...

:p The timers a bit of a pain in the butt either way, as long as it ticks most of the boxes I guess thats ok. Redid the info and added the reverb switch to try it out, dunno whether its better or not but hey its a port so if thats how the window is in the original that works for me. Probably a continuation of my desire to find a good skin for use with radio...
What exactly is a good skin for radio anyway?

about timers in the wa modern skin (talking about qwayke): I think the font is different from the one wa uses, I checked yesterday night; and another thing, are the ":" part of the font or of the skin (font?), since they're actually bigger on your (really loved by me) port, maybe this can influence the glitches I spotted in my previous post. +1 for the tiny rev switch on a side note: I suppose moving down the buttons is to be able to rezize to palyer width the playlist/inf windows... I don't like much it, it changes the feeling of the skin a bit, but if this will be the way you go, will the sources permit to mod it as it is now (buttons on top position of that window)?

What exactly is a good skin for radio anyway? Well.... my favorite for radio is currently Royale Vista. Song title space should be long to avoid scrolling. Having some different colors such as copper, qwake or nightvision would be neat. As discussed already, elapsed time is not significant and the progress bar (since it doesn't get filled in) is a waste of pixels and makes the vertical centering of the song title wrong. Royale Vista can't be the only skin since it lacks most controls such as eq/reverb/pan/info/pl/ml/etc. Thinking about it, any of the skins like WAModern could serve well if the mini-mode was really minimalistic. Since we have auto-mini, trying to use any controls on a current WAModern mini skin is useless. Touch the mini and the full-size skin (with all the controls) pops up. So maybe make the mini skin almost bare, and on mouse-over the full-sized (standard) skin displays.

Yes the font (":" included) is different from WA as the original uses a bitmap for its fonts, in fact its one of the only fonts in the new WAModern that weren't made from scratch as pixel fonts for XMPlay. Thats pretty much the only difference, cleartype doesn't affect the bitmap fonts but goes nuts with the .ttf. It's not particularly time consuming to make it into one though, just need to make sure it doesn't change the pattern view visual in a negative way (uses the same font). Moving down the buttons doesn't affect the width much, just I didn't want to have to change the width twice when I made the change. I can release the source for both layouts though I think (Only the XMPlay branded sources will be being released, its a bit painful keeping 2x as many skins up to date just to have the winamp branded ones too). Hmmm as far as this one goes, when the sources are released you'll be able to chop down the minimode to just the title etc in about 10 mouse clicks, not perfect but its something. Besides the ImAbar style (which prove I hate doing output panels ) skins I churned out a while back I was never particularly good at the minimal style, I get the idea I just can't quite manage the execution since I can't draw for nuts . Usually left that kind of thing to Tsorovan, speaking of which, where are you hiding Tso you still have to finish this!.

Yeah, I carry XMPlay on a USB stick sometimes, so I prefer the compiled skin because it is much smaller and is all in one file. I might have to try playing with it just to learn about the skinning. Don't sell yourself short. I think you do minimal well.

I don't know if it's a skin limitation or not, so I'll ask: in the wa modern skins, is it possible to have the info bubble the same color as the one in the original skin? for example, in qwayke they should be dark red. thanks.

Thank you once again for these skins Keltic. I was observing a corelation between the WAModern-WAClassic skins and some of the visualizations (Honto's Phase, CoR's Spec'n'Hop, SpectrumBars). They seem a bit jerky with these skins. I waited until a new "stuff" version to see if the problem was fixed but it is still there. The new "Aiwa" skins also seem to be affected by this behaviour, so maybe it is related with XMPlay's new spectrum feature? P.S. Thanks for resolving the little graphic glitch on Good 'Ol Winamp and the digits. They look great! Edit: I also posted it in 3.5 reports, queries and bugs. The letters in the bubble info do not look as crisp as in the original XMPlay's MMD3 and WAModern

Will try -boost and see if that helps at all, but I'll see what the big cheese finds. The bubble infos haven't been modified from the default skinconfig settings, think the font is the same in both of them but I'll see whats fuzzy wuzzy about it.

btw, I noticed a little thing with the new spectrum while in minimode: if an info bubble goes over it, the spectrum will acts like it's "resetting", showing all bar full, then starting to work again. I don't know if it's the same thing other experience. it's easy to reproduce: lt's say you're using the new WA modern in minimode, just over te cursor on the postion bar, just under the spectrum.
