'Evangelizing' XMPlay
« on: 1 Nov '10 - 16:10 »
well this is a picture i made for 'evangelizing' XMPlay among my relatives/friends/known people etc ..
the explicative text is in spanish and it has wich i believe are the top most features of my favorite audio player :)

so why not make something like that in English for all the people to better know xmp
i could translate it myself but my English is not as good as it was used to be seven ~ years ago :D
besides you could help me modify the text with what u believe are the top xmp features

Hey, that pic/ad is pretty spiffy :)

I'd suggest maybe adding an additional/seperate blurb about XMPlay's excellent MIDI Plugin (and that it's SoundFont compatible)... definately a "selling point" in my book :)

Maybe something along the lines of:

Code: [Select]
* XMPlay MIDI Plugin

 - Full multiple (and "stacked") SoundFont support for MIDI playback.
 - Ability to load custom SoundFonts for specific MIDI files (based upon MIDI file and SoundFont filename).
 - Display of embedded MIDI karaoke lyrics.
 - Display of all embedded MIDI markers, comments, and instruments.
 - Maximum 128 note polyphony. (*1)
 - Supports 32-channel MIDI files (32 MIDI channels).
 - 32 channel MIDI mixer.
 - Support for all General MIDI controllers, including Reverb and Chorus.
 - The best damned SoundFont compatible software synthesizer, hands down! (*2)

(*1) = NOTE: actually, I'm not sure about this one; I forget what Ian stated that the max polyphony capability of the MIDI plugin was.

(*2) = NOTE: my own biased interjection and opinion <grin> :)

P.S. I hope you don't mind:

I've partially (well actually, mostly) plagiarized your pic and HTML-ized it here -> http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/XMPlay/XMPlay.htm .

Looking nice :).

Here are some fixes/improvements for the English version that I came up with:

- "Among all of this", should be "these"
- "No installation needed take it with u...", I'd put a semicolon after "needed" (;)
- On library part: "non-destructive" is a bit vague, I'd change it to just say "without altering the music files"
- On global shortcuts part, I'd put a comma after "focus" for better readability
- "listen and record your favorite stations", should be "listen to". Since XMPlay (Ian Luck) is British, perhaps also use British version of "favorite", "favourite" :)
- On custom titles part: I'd put a comma after "it" for readability
- "XMPlay can remember you effects...", should be "your"
- Remove the period mark after the last line of the main part, since the other lines don't have them either. Perhaps also remove them from the lines in the MIDI part for consistency
- In the MIDI part: "based upon MIDI file...", should probably be "based on"... I'm not a 100% sure of this - is there a reason why "upon" should be used instead?
- Remove the comma after "comments"

Anyway, nice work :)

Gracias :) BTW, made just a wee little update to the HTM: pics of XMPlay itself :)

I dunno. Prolly just personally preference.

I'm really no sure which is grammatically correct; but everytime that I wanna be informal I say "on", but when I want to sound "formal" (i.e. full of hot air LOL!) I usually say "upon".

'Evangelizing' the BASSMIDI driver
Folks,

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but... I've added a BASSMIDI Windows Driver blurb to my XMPlay "advertisement" page -> http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/XMPlay/XMPlay.htm#bassmididriver :)
