Okay, as I use the player more, I am encountering other small things.
As previously explained, I tend to open a folder, rather than files, because I am opening an "album". Since I am doing this, I want the album played back as released. Only the Track Number Tag does this - in fact, that is what the tag is really for.
So, if "Auto-Sort by Track Number Tag" were added to the Integration options, in addition to "Auto-Sort by File Name", that would take care of it.
Meanwhile, I have a global hot-key defined for "Sort by Track Number Tag", but having to press that key every time I add a folder is pointless, since the point of a computer is to do automated tasks.
PS I know that I am not the only one who adds albums as folders - one of the few reviewers in Softpedia who downgraded XMPlay, did so partially because "you can't add a whole folder at once".

The drawback here is that the filename is directly available when a file is added, but the tags are not (unless the file is in the library). Waiting for the tags to be read means playback cannot be started yet, which is what kept Ian from implementing this in the past.

Okay, but I think that the amount of time spent by the software to read the tags and then sort the files, is far less than the amount of time spent manually to deal with the situation. One could just specify in the documentation that checking that option will delay the start of playback.

I guess it should sort by track numbers first, and then by album name, to avoid multiple albums being mixed. One could just specify in the documentation that checking that option will delay the start of playback. Sure.

I don't know if this is possible to implement, but I'd like to see a "Loop Selection" feature: Hold a modifier key (e.g. SHIFT) and drag the song position slider so you select (highlight) a specific part of the song. Loop that section over and over

Would it be possible for the equalizer, as it appears in Options & stuff, to display the numerical value of the current setting for each band, please? Also, I'd like to second the request made by Dotpitch earlier in this thread, that 0.1dB increments be available on scrolling with the mouse. Many thanks.

One more request/suggestion -
Allow Multiple Info Windows.
That would implement functionality seen in most other music players.
Particularly with the current CUE implementation, you need to see that specific window ("Message" IIRC?) to see what the various tracks are. Then you need General to see technical details, and you need Playlist if it is not a CUE implementation, you need Library if you are using the Library to queue up the next things to play, and you need Visuals to see the Album Cover (and we have to choose between the very nice Spectrum and the Album Cover - unlike most other players).
Please note this is not a criticism, since clearly so much has already been done by so few developers. But, since the thread is asking for suggestions, these are some.

In integration section of the options and tools there's an option to play after bookmarking. It is nice but could you also add an option to the right click menu of the position slider to "queue bookmark"? It will help to resume the original playlist order without waiting for the added tracks to end first.
Here's an update to try... www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exeRather than queuing the bookmark, it adds an option to "Resume [the bookmark] after queue", which can be toggled, eg. cancelled. If there is no queue, then the bookmark will be resumed after the current track. Support Next/Previous Track from Tray-Icon-Right-Click-Menu for track information from cue files. I believe that this is also called "Next-Sub-Track" and "Previous-Sub-Track".
These could either be added directly to the menu, or using the same right-click-on method that is used for the Next-Track and Previous-Track buttons would be fine.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to distinguish whether it was the left or right button that was pressed to select a menu option, but in a similar vein, the update above adds a Shift key modifier to the previous/next track options: if the Shift key is pressed, they will jump to the previous/next subsong instead. Would it be possible for the equalizer, as it appears in Options & stuff, to display the numerical value of the current setting for each band, please?
The update above will show the level when moving the slider (you can just hold the mouse down on the slider to see the current level).

The update above will show the level when moving the slider (you can just hold the mouse down on the slider to see the current level). Thanks for this. It's slightly confusing that different numerical scales are used for the left-hand axis and for the slider popups (e.g. +3dB = 14), but I guess I can live with that.

That's strange, the slider popup should show the dB level. What Windows version are you using? To see if there is some pattern to it... is anyone else seeing this, and if so, what Windows version is being used?

That list is very ambitious - looks great !
One thing - in the tray icon right-click menu - would it be possible to move the contents of the Open sub-menu back into the right-click menu itself, i.e. "Open Files" and "Open Folder" ?
Right-click followed by move up and left-click can be one motion done by rote, which opening a second menu and moving right requires a lot more attention, time and precision/
And at the moment, the right-click menu is not so crowded as to require sub-menus - assuming that I am not missing some other factor.
Thanks !

Equalizer levels are displayed as dB in slider popups in skins (including the default), in case that's relevant. Sorry, it hadn't occurred to me that this aspect of the player's behaviour might be OS-related.

Windows 7 64-bit, eq tips are all dB.

Even if not during a track , bookmarking the end of the last track before queue can simplify the resume of original list order .
