Would this work?
Do the search
Write a playlist with descriptive name (say "this search.pls" or "elvis.pls")
Play the playlist

I'm still unsure about it as I think it's quite likely to result in mishaps (eg. lost playlist), but I guess there's no harm if it's optional and "undo" can be used to reverse it, so here's something to try...

   www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

It adds an "Auto-replace list with library matches" switch to the search button menu, which will replace the playlist with matches from the library whenever new search criteria are applied.

Also xmplay doesn't visually mark tracks which are already played. In random play order mode it is difficult to evaluate how many tracks are left to play.

One workaround for that would be to shuffle the playlist itself and then let it play 'em out in order. Then you'd see exactly how much is left at any given point Smiley

But I would have to click it every time I open a playlist in win explorer. I came to xmplay from kmplayer (and still use it for playing movies), and this feature was rather usefull for me as a "current track#/total count" hint in the tray bubble.
And my another suggestion... I think it will be more comfortable to control player from tray, if one mouse left click on it's icon would also show such bar and get focus for volume control as it already do:

Maybe the option "Auto-replace list with library matches" should be visible also in the "find tracks" window?

Take a look at xmptray.

I know about this tool. But it is a standalone application and it displays its controls all the time the xmplay is run. While I guess the bar will appear only after xmplay get focus for volume level change and dissappear after it looses this focus. Context menu is not also the best solution for this.

First of all: xmplay rules. I've tried zillions of players, but I find myself coming back over and over again: xmplay is light, fast, portable and it plays whatever you throw at it. But, it lacks one small feature: I'd really like xmplay to have a "gui-less" option, so it would basically act as a command line program. I know there's the -tray parameter, but that's not what I mean.

It would be nice to be able to run xmplay with a "-nogui" parameter, or to add a NoGui=1 setting in the ini. Would that be hard to implement?

How is this different from XMPlay being in the tray, and what should XMPlay be able to do when in this mode?

How is this different from XMPlay being in the tray, and what should XMPlay be able to do when in this mode?

For example, If I start XMPlay with the -tray parameter, it will always "flash" and become the active window. I've tried to start XMPlay hidden with extern utilities like nircmd, or with autohotkey's "hide" command but neither won't work; it continues to keep "flashing" and stealing focus; really annoyning.

As a nice addition, it will also becomes more difficult to exit XMPlay when my wife takes over the computer while I'm listening to internet radio. Smiley

Just remove the GUI with an extra parameter, that's it. Foobar2000 has this "/nogui" parameter also, by the way -- works great. Smiley

Suggestions for XMPlay 3.6

Requested:
Interface

- Flash current track in playlist/library

Here's an example of what I mean (it flashes a little slower actually):

Here's what it currently looks like in XMPlay:

It is more practical and easier on the eyes to find the current track, either on the Playlist or the Media Library. I would LOVE to have this feature implemented in XMPlay  Cool

I've already suggested this feature. I would like it to be implemented in XMPlay, with the option of disabling it. With would make the name of the current track on the playlist and specially in the library MUCH easier to locate.

Hello ,

With files with sample rate higher than 96000 my sound card buffer experience buffer underruns. To avoid this I need to downsample the files permanently or to resample all files inside xmplay.

I was wondering if an option to resample only files with samplerate higher than X could be added.

Maybe an easy way is to use "save setting" option, that is to activate sample rate setting in output section according to samplerate information ?

Ian, any chance for an increase in the maximum amplification value?

Currently it stops at +15 dB and that's not enough for some of the songs I listen to.

Example available here: http://snesmusic.org/hoot/pmh/d/Devilish%20(GG)(1991-03-29)(Opera%20House)(Genki).zip

(Needs Nezplug++ Winamp plugin for playback from here: http://offgao.no-ip.org/program/nezplug++.html)

Yeah, works really great when there's a normal volume track next in the playlist. Smiley
Especially late at night. Tongue

How about a control for autoamp that doesn't increase the volume between songs.  Yes I have it turned off, and it still changes the amplification.  The autoamp is a good feature, but it's controls are not intuitive.  I read the manual, and I still don't understand how to control it.  By the way, I'm a computer expert.

Have you looked also in the dsp section in "options and stuff"?
Have you turned off both auto-amp and replaygain?
Have you toggled on the option "reset on new track"?

That was a big help thanks.  I assumed that the autoamp light off, in the slide panel, meant the amplification was off (as it should be).

I was about 3 seconds from abandoning this great piece of software.

I guarantee there are others who find this part of the interface too cryptic (IE see the many forum posts on autoamp).

Thanks again,
Kevin

Also xmplay doesn't visually mark tracks which are already played. In random play order mode it is difficult to evaluate how many tracks are left to play.

If you're using the latest stuff, perhaps you could enable the "Remove after playing" option in the right-click menu of the "Remove from list" button. That will result in tracks being removed from the list after they're played, making it easy to see what's left to play.

Thanks , Ian. I will give it a try.

Yep, if the option turns out to work well Smiley

For example, If I start XMPlay with the -tray parameter, it will always "flash" and become the active window. I've tried to start XMPlay hidden with extern utilities like nircmd, or with autohotkey's "hide" command but neither won't work; it continues to keep "flashing" and stealing focus; really annoyning.

Here's an update that shouldn't flash and steal focus when the "-tray" option is used...

   www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

I've already suggested this feature. I would like it to be implemented in XMPlay, with the option of disabling it. With would make the name of the current track on the playlist and specially in the library MUCH easier to locate.

The quickest way to locate the current track is to use the "List nav - Jump to current" shortcut, which is assigned to Ctrl+Up (or Down) by default. You can also right-click on the list's scroller to bring the current track into view.

With files with sample rate higher than 96000 my sound card buffer experience buffer underruns. To avoid this I need to downsample the files permanently or to resample all files inside xmplay.

That sounds strange. What output system are you using, and does increasing the buffer length help? Is 96000 Hz (or lower) the soundcard's highest supported rate? If so, ASIO or exclusive mode WASAPI output would automatically be limited to that (anything higher would be resampled to that).

Ian, any chance for an increase in the maximum amplification value?

The update above extends the auto-amp range to 20 dB. Let me know if it still isn't enough.
