Personally, I thought the popping up of windows with the mouse pointer location as origin feature was a bit annoying and was about to comment on that (thought it was somewhat of a bug/oversight). Especially if you're opening a file, where, I guess, many people don't use anything but the keyboard for navigating. But maybe I'm alone in thinking that? If so, ignore.

Hoping that the revision says 'Open Vis' instead of 'Close Playlist'.  Also, considering that all the buttons besides Vis on its page are now dead, apparently, this would be a useful change as the skins are revised in response to 2.8's Options and Stuff.
Thanks.

I suppose the names "Extended playlist" and "Track info" could be used in place of "Open playlist" and "Close playlist", but that's such a very small detail... It's not really that hard to remember, is it?

What do you mean the buttons are "dead"?  The info found in General, Message, and Samples cannot be found in the "Options and stuff".  Although... maybe it wouldn't hurt if some info could be found there as well?  Wait... then it would have to be called "Options and info and stuff". Tongue

You're right; 'dead' is too dismissive.
Still, right now I'm using the X-RD2506 skin.  The button in question says, 'Info', but the tooltip says, 'Close Playlist'.  Neither one of those is too informative, right?
What I'm getting by pushing that button is the Tag info and the Vis; I use XMPlay as a player, Tagscan for Tags and editing the playlists.
http://xdev.narod.ru/index_e.htm
Wouldn't the button be more informative if it said 'Tag/Vis'?  No more letters, and actually helps people, including me, know what's there.
This thread is appropriately called 'Minor Issues'.

Tag/Vis would be bad because that button changes neither between tags nor visualizations (directly).

Yes, it is a minor issue, but it is more accurately directed towards the skin authors (you are talking about the skins, after all).

As for the tooltips,, however, I agree that the "Extended Playlist" and "Information/Visual" works. As for them being too long, I wouldn't think so; I have song titles  longer than that. Grin

If you have Loop List on, and one track in the playlist, which is dead, XMPlay will loop infinitely trying to play the file. If I try to press Stop, it stops, but then it no longer does anything.

One rule I've found useful:  if the opposite of a designator is meaningless, then the designator is unnecessary.
An example is the designator 'Information' in this case.  Would you ever have a button labelled 'Uninformative'?  All that 'Information' really says is that you'll learn something by pushing the button, and that's expected.
On the other hand, using 'Tag' says that you will see information associated with the tag.  Admittedly, there's some ambiguity because you might expect to access the tag itself, but the correct conclusion is easy to recall.
So, I suggest the change to 'Tag/Vis' has value, though 'Track Info/Vis' is arguably better if there's room.
We argue the great issues of our time, don't we?!

While we're at it, why not 'Track Info & Vis' instead of 'Track Info/Vis', so people wouldn't think the button switches between Track Info and Visualisations? =)

BUG (v2.8): Drag & Dropping Tracks into Playlist

Previous versions made it possible to directly drag tracks to a certain place in the (extended) playlist, for example inbetween certain other tracks. In v2.8, they get appended no matter what. Intended?

Is that with the updated 2.8 EXE? There was a problem like that in the original 2.8 but it should be sorted in the update.

Btw, there may be another little update shortly, to fix a few more barely noticeable things Smiley

Ah, my apologies; I thought I had that .exe but it seems I was still running the original release. There's no really easy way of telling other than comparing file dates, but no biggie that.

If that's so, I have a few more little thingies...

1. Pressing stop/next/prev/whatever while a WMA file is loading, makes XMPlay crash.

2. If double clicking on the tray icon restores XMPlay, why not make double click minimize it back? (Very convenient IMO.)

3. New hotkeys for amplification +/-. (I just love hotkeys.)

Cheers.

It's probably already been suggested somewhere, and I'm just blind (or it already has been implemented and I'm just not updated) - but would you mind making the non-functioning "Output Options" button bring up the Options & Stuff panel for the duration of the 2.x versions? This is to hopefully alleviate the amount of "RTFM" screaming we have to do to people.  =]

I suppose you could make the left panel Mask 2 work as an Options and Stuff button.  That way almost every skin would have that new button in the place of the old "Change panel".

But then again, users would be clicking on a button marked "Output", which isn't everything found in Options & Stuff.

This is exactly why Ian should include the version numbers in XMPlay, by adding a small VERSIONINFO resource (around 100 bytes in the most basic form, why is nothing even over dialup) to XMPlay.exe.

It's not a final kinda feature, man... it's just a temporary thing for the transition to hopefully kill a lot of the possible posts from people who a) refuse to read the readme or changelogs, or b) dont know how to use a frickin forum's search feature.

Ok, most of these little things have been sorted for the update, except the extra hotkeys (I'm planning to expand that stuff in the next version). I'm not certain about the WMA thing as it doesn't crash here, but I saw something that may cause a problem, and that's been dealt with. (if you can post the crash location/etc, I can be more sure)

Btw, VERSIONINFO was added in the 2.8 update... pay attention people
