When ripping a CD track the drive speed does not always go to maximum. Is there a known reason for this?

What speed is BASS_CD_GetSpeed reporting, and does it seem to be going slower than that?

If it is only some CDs that are going slowly, perhaps they have errors. When the drive is unable to read a frame, BASSCD will retry a few times (according to BASS_CONFIG_CD_RETRY); you can use a BASS_SYNC_CD_ERROR sync to be informed of that happening.

When ripping well the speed reported is 40x. Sometimes it reports 10x or 15x. Possibly the disk related but not sure yet.

Next question: After ripping has finished, how do I wind the drive speed back to 0 or something sensible. I tried BASS_CD_SetSpeed but that doesn't seem to do anything. I know I can open the door but I would prefer not to at this stage.

If the speed is changing by itself (ie. without you/BASSCD requesting it), then it looks like the drive has some automated speed control, perhaps based on its error detection or power/noise reduction features. Regarding BASS_CD_SetSpeed, is the call reporting success (returning TRUE) but having no effect on what BASS_CD_GetSpeed reports?
