Is it possible to put a 16x16 .ico somewhere and XMPlay will use it as tray icon?

No, XMPlay will always use it's own icon.

I think that changing xmplay.exe icon with such programs as Resource Hacker, may help to work around this.

First, get unpacked version (or unpack yourself). Next use resource hacker or restorator.
Also you can write yourself own player on bass.dll  Wink

How can I unpack it? UPX doesn't show is as compressed, and mpress doesn't have an option to decompress.

Ideas?  Huh

Resource Hacker view xmplay icons in exe freely. I think, there is no need in unpacking...

Sorry, I didn't try to resave file myself... Try other unpackers, otherwise my advice was a failure.

XMPlay checks itself when it's run, for tampering by malware. Thus modifying the .exe will corrupt it.

XMPlay is a great player, but I'm sorry to say this, I think its icon is extremely ugly.
I will switch to AIMP for now Smiley

Just because of the icon? Why don't you hide the icon and use the keyboard shortcuts?

I believe that XMPlay.exe is compressed using Petite, a DLL/EXE compressor written by Ian himself.
