I'd certainly like that as well, even though the primary purpose of this encoder is not music. The bitstream is (more or less) frozen and libraries are available from Xiph.

OK. Here's something to try...

All of the usual stuff should be supported, including internet streaming. It seems to be working quite nicely, but it hasn't been tested very much yet, so please report any problems.

I briefly tried it, seems to work without a problem . Plays audio correctly, reads the tags, seeking is swift. I'll try some encoder setting variations tomorrow.

Offtop:
On very low bitrate encoders with SBR is more preferred for "music". This encoder simply cut frequency.

wow that went fast Good job, worked for me as well (and at least in my case, Opus is about 1 MiB smaller then the original MP3 and I can't hear any difference)

It correctly plays everything the encoder makes . What's with "Samplerate: 48000 Hz (originally 44100 Hz)" btw? I've never seen XMPlay show that before.

Yep, that "originally" business doesn't currently apply to any other formats. Opus files have a sample rate of 48000 Hz, but the original rate may be stored in the file header and XMPlay will display that when it is (and it isn't 48000 Hz).

Now, I know this is just a bad tag, but there are no proper taggers available (yet) for Opus files. IIRC, there was a similar issue with the date tag with xmp-aac, is that right? Could you put in the same workaround?

Btw, xmp-opus is dong a great job . It properly reads opus-in-ogg as well, and is not acting up on non-Opus files.

Opus tags are stored in "name=value" form (like Ogg Vorbis), so the Opus plugin doesn't need to do anything special and just displays the tags as they are (after removing the '='). I don't recall a date problem with the AAC plugin; was there a thread/post about that? MP4 tags are stored quite differently though, so it probably wouldn't be the same problem anyway

Yes, there is. Actually, there is no workaround implemented for MP4, as it's still on the list of suggestions.

Apparently, I myself posted a workaround for using this tag format in the title formatting (cut{%4|4|}, neat!), but it still looks weird in the Year column of the library.

OK. Rather than modifying individual plugins to trim the tag to just the year part, here's an XMPlay update that will do it for all...

Playback support is present in a handful of applications by now, but I'm not aware of any radio station actually using Opus right now.

Opus 1.0.0RC was released yesterday btw, so it won't be long before the final version arrives.
