I went to Hydrogenaudio's forum to promote XMPlay and to get some tips for improving the player, and it seems like most people there would like to have a standard preferences dialog as in many other players. Some thought it was confusing to have all the settings on the player's interface, it being skinnable and all. So, I thought maybe it could be added as an option, for example via right-clicking the player (where you normally change skins). They haven't yet come by any other notable flaws, except for the crashing on changing the size of some visuals, but I guess you were working on that already Smiley.

You know, this could be an excellent thing for 3.x. Even if we don't use an internal preferences window, perhaps 3.x could be .INI-driven, and an optional program that configures XMPLAY.INI could be coded.

Just an idea; I'm trying to think of ways that would make XMPlay more outside-the-community-friendly, while maintaining a small .EXE and memory usage.

I have been planning to add a dialog containing all the options before releasing 2.7a, but I've not yet decided on a layout for it. It wouldn't necessarily replace the options in the GUI - just replicate them in a single place, for peeps that can't be arsed to switch panels/etc... Smiley

Regarding the vis stuff... a "Restrict rendering" option has already been added, which basically makes it work as in the previous versions Smiley

The thing I can't decide is which options should be included, and how to arrange them nicely... if anyone wants to do that, and send me the resource file, they're most welcome to Cheesy

I'd think pretty much all of the options should be included there. They could be divided into groups, similarly to how they are in the GUI's panels now. Additionally there could be a group, "playlist", which would of course have all the playlist's settings. Into group "miscellaneous" could be added the track looping setting and skins. Also, perhaps "plugins" wouldn't need a category of its own. 'Auto-load settings' -button and its sub-menu need a place too, and I thought perhaps they could be as a separate item, so as not to be left unnoticed.

Just a simple conception of how it could be done. If someone has a better idea, go right ahead and ignore this Smiley.

This is something that will happen in my 'tweaker', if I ever get the time to put it together. Ian, could you send me details of the registry entries (the binary ones in particular - I can guess the rest). Thanks.

"But it may be best to wait to see 2.7a first, with the new options dialogs." ~ Ian (in a PM)

I will carry on with mine, as my intention (given time) is to include plugin and skin options as well, with my own plugins for plugins. Plus, my program will include "hidden" settings (there's at least one that I know of) that aren't accessible directly through XMPlay in the current version.
