Messages from some skins
« on: 23 Jul '13 - 13:43 »
yep

some skins show a message warning about certain font that isnt present on the system.
Example the 'Entel' skin that wants 'Lucida Sans' font, that in fact is a licesed font.

Exist a way to prevent that these warning appears ?
Also, is it possible to pack the font with the skin files to prevent this ?

thx in advance

That font is actually shipped with Windows... Oh wait, it probably wasn't 15 years ago.

Actually it is shipped with Win98, according to Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/product.aspx?PID=108
Maybe you uninstalled some fonts?

A number of skins already use a custom font, which is then packed into the skin file. This is only allowed if the author of the skin has the rights to use the font in that way, which is probably not the case for Lucida Sans.

Right, sorry, that was a different "new guy" (also complaining that some things don't work every now and then :P )... But still, any more or less recent Windows version should ship with this font... Not sure how you could get rid of it on your system?

Yes, that's possible.

I still use Win98SE, but I'm certainly not a "new guy" around here (if I'm the one you happen to be referring to), even if I only make a post every now and then...

ok dotpitch, can you show a link or the required information to pack and insert the required from into the skin file ?

You can't pack a font (which you don't even appear to have) into a compiled skin. You'll have to ask the skin author to do that. But I agree that there should probably be an option to disable such warning messages.

The font warning message should only appear when switching skins, eg. via the right-click menu or "Appearance" options page. It shouldn't appear when loading XMPlay. So once you've selected a troublesome skin, you shouldn't see the warning again until you switch skins.

Regarding the missing "Lucida Sans" font, I think the issue may be that it's not "Lucida Sans Unicode", which seems to be what comes with Windows. I have now put up an updated version of the Entel skin that uses "Lucida Sans Unicode" instead of "Lucida Sans".
