At Options and Stuff > Appearance in XMPlay 3.8.5.0, the open panels tick box seems to not work properly. While playing music, I'd expect that checking and unchecking this box would cause the skin panels to expand and contract. At least with a few skins, this does not happen. The "Big" tick box, however, works as expected, making the player skin big and small when checked and unchecked. Also, I'm seeing panels in my preferred skin, Rated Carbon, appear in front of the main area of the skin when I open XMPlay. Please test and correct this feature if possible. Thank you!

Ian @ un4seen

Ticking the "Open panels" box should open the skin's panels, but unticking the box won't then close the panels. If you aren't seeing the panels opening with some skins, please try them with the latest build, as this stuff was actually tweaked earlier this year:

Let me know if you still see any problem with that, and with which skins.

OK, the open panels issue is solved, but I'm still seeing the flyout panels in my Rated Carbon skin appear in front of the main portion of the skin. I do not have duplicates of this skin in my XMPlay directory. Any ideas how to fix this?

Ian @ un4seen

Do you mean the side panels (containing EQ and playlist) appear in front (rather than behind) when they're closed? If so, I don't seem to be able to reproduce that here. Are there any special steps to make it happen? Is it happening with other skins too, eg. the default skin? Do you have any DSP/general plugins enabled (particularly any with popup windows) in the "Plugins" options page, and if so, does disabling them prevent the problem?

Can Xm Play do crossfade when start/stop playback?

Ian @ un4seen

Do you mean fade-in/out rather than crossfade? XMPlay doesn't currently have the option to fade-in/out when starting/stopping playback, but it does have a crossfade option for track changes (in the "Miscellaneous" options page).

Is it possible to assign the middle mouse key to certain actions, such as switching to the next random track, etc ?

Ian @ un4seen

It is possible to assign the middle mouse button to certain actions in the "Playlist" options page, but only actions specific to the clicked-on track, so random track changing isn't included.

Alex Mortar

Maybe it possible to switch song in one action (to assign middle button by clicking on tray icon) ?

Ian @ un4seen

There is a "Random track" option in the tray icon's right-click menu. Right-clicking on the play button will also switch to a random track.

When amplification level is low, the dynamic mode slider (amplification) doesn't increase.
A sample track can be found in this reply:

Ian @ un4seen

The dynamic auto-amp mode currently has a silence threshold of -30dB, ie. anything below that is considered silence and ignored. The linked file seems to be permanently below the threshold. Is it meant to be that quiet?

The auto-amp also has a gain limit of +20dB, so even after that the file's peak level would still be somewhere below -10dB.

I think there must have been some change in behaviour in recent "stuff" versions. I often shut down Windows while XMPlay is still open, but recently I noticed that the state of my playlist is no longer the same after turning the computer on again. Normally XMPlay would save the playlist and queue on exit, even when shutting down Windows, but now this does not seem to happen anymore. FWIW I just upgraded from .61 to .63, but as I didn't see any mentions of this issue here, I assume it has not been fixed yet.

Edit: No difference after upgrading to .63

Ian @ un4seen

I suspect this is related to a change that was made to avoid a deadlock when closing XMPlay while an output file selector is open (eg. for the WAV writer). Here's a little tweak for you to try:

Please let me know if you still have the problem.

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to have helped. xmplay.pls is still not updated when shutting down Windows here.

Ian @ un4seen

Oops, here's another update for you to try:

I think it's working now, but let me know if it still isn't there.

Hi. Just noticed in latest version, there is no Frames on display

It was removed for some issue or just disable?

Ian @ un4seen

Yes, that info (and OGG pages) was removed earlier this year as it wasn't really very interesting, and reducing the amount of info there will be better for skins that want it all in one line (such as the next default skin :)).

When using XMPlay 3.8.5.67 on Windows 11 (23H2), the equalizer tab and playlist tab of the face can no longer be closed while remaining open.

Is there a way to close it?

Ian @ un4seen

In recent builds, the side panels can be opened/closed with a single click instead of dragging them. The click area is also now highlighted when you move the mouse over it, to make it more apparent that it's there.

kakuyoshi

I confirmed that the panel can be opened and closed by clicking.
Thank you very much.

"Separate subsongs" option does not separate all selected library entries ("Separate subsongs" option returns more playlist entries for the same content).

Hi everyone and Ian! First time here but a life long XMPlay user, started tracking in -91ish on Amiga. Was wondering if Ian would be willing to fix the few remaining obscure bugs in the Amiga Protracker replayer? If needed, I can make a module demonstrating them to compare against the Protracker clone.

Ian @ un4seen

Sure, feel free to post/email any PT1 compatibility issues that you've noticed. When doing your comparisons, please make sure you have XMPlay's "MOD playback mode" option set to "PT1" and that you're using the latest build, which is available here:
