24/32bit output - cant make it work..

Hi there,

this was submerged a bit in the xmplay 2.6 thread, I thought it was probably worth making a new one  ;)

I cant seem to make xmplay flip into either 24/32bit mode for mixing mods or for oggs. I'm using xmplay 2.6, win2k sp3, and an m-audio audiophile card with the latest drivers. I've not updated to direct-x 9 yet.

Regarding winamp - I cant make it go into 32bit mode, but I've not used it in a while :D  (for some reason hehe). However, Cool edit pro can go into 32bit output mode, and recognises the card as capable.

regarding the technology itself.. what benefits are there with 32bit mixing? less clipping?

any ideas? thanks in advance..

I'll send you an update with a little modification to try :)

Regarding the benefits of 32/24-bit output - clipping isn't really affected, XMPlay will still try to use the full dynamic range (eg. with "dynamic" auto-amp)... it's just that more subtle changes in the sound are possible with the greater resolution.
