what about changing that icon? at least for playable files...
there could be an icon for each playable extension so you can quickly distinguish the file type

For different icons and such (like I said for the global hot keys idea), instead of cramming in options that the majority won't use. A seperate little app could do this. For example if people want it they could download a seperate icons pack. With an icons.dll containing ya different icons, and a little app to allow you to pick a filetype and an icon from the dll (or maybe anywhere). I'm thinking this could be a better way that say including default icons for each supported format, since then you would have a general icon for all the one that don't have a specific icon to themselves. Eg. with a seperate dll the icons could be added and changed without altering xmplay itself. Kinda like a plugin I guess. Although I have to admit I've grown very attached to the standard icon, and would'nt really like lots of diff icons for each filetype. (This coming from the guy who changed the icon resources in winrar just so the icons were the same as winace ).

Well, irfanview (free picture viewer) also has what back then ACDSee introduced, diff. icons for the diff. supported formats, with a little label on the icon itself saying the extension of the file. Real nice feature IMHO. Keltic: no need for a separate application. worst that can happen is that we'll have a scrollbar in the integration panel to scroll the formats a little icons.dll would rule Riven: well, both xmplay and wina** have disk writer support, and IMHO, adlib hardware is rare nowadays... (espec in never, non dos-compatible OSses, like win2k and winxp, where legacy devices don't really exist). But... Many many thanks for supporting XMPlay

Funny, I didn't like XMPlay's icon when I first started using it either... (Now I display it proudly on my desktop. ) I think having different icons for each filetype would be a good idea, but what would be the difference between them? Would it be separate icons which display individual file names like 'XM' 'IT' 'MOD' and so on? Or different coloured icons? But like I said before, splitting up file types (from just the general listing of 'XMPlayable file') would help when organizing files by type, whether you change the icons of them or not. Here's an [unrelated] question: I have 2 .xm files that when playing their file type is displayed as " XM?" in the little info bar. (Underneath the current position bar.) Why the question mark?

I uploaded Solar Wind (solar.xm) by Andreas Viklund. Pattern Viewer really doesn't work with it. It just... You'll see. I got the file ok now, but I can't see the problem... you'll have to tell me

Thanks for the info. But now I'm curious: Here's what the beginning reads in Notepad: Extended Module: Apidya2.TFX So if this is an .xm why does it show a TFX extension here? Interestingly enough, I do have a TFX plugin - but XMPlay doesn't need it to play this. And I see there's another smily:  After looking through some of those other extra smilies, I see most aren't suitable for a serious board like this.

I got the file ok now, but I can't see the problem... you'll have to tell me Maybe it's just me (Windows XP), but when the brown line scrolls down, I see it blink 4 times per screen. Blink, blink, blink, blink, and it goes on in cycles like that, up, middle, low middle, and bottom, not scrolling down, but jumping around like crazy. I don' think it should be like that. ~Olego~

There's no need for a disk writer built in the plugin, XMPlay can already write to disk (inc. encoding to MP3/OGG/etc...) from plugins AdPlug's Disk Writer writes Rdos' RAW files (direct OPLx chip data). Simple and universal format Is Adlib hardware common? Maybe it is, I don't really know anything about it hmm... this means "Yes, I do it, if you send me enough dox" ?

Maybe it's the same sort of problem you had before with the mini-mode time display in XP... I never had that problem either Have to see if Rahdick has the problem (he had the old mini-mode time problem too).

Anybody agree that vbr mp3's reek? I run them through CDex and set them in a standard bit rate if I can't replace them. (I'll accept the mp3 to wav cost.) Problem is, I'd like to know what the high and low rates are so that I don't waste space on too high a rate, or lose quality with too low a rate. Any chance XM could tell me current bit rate as it plays a vbr? Or is that more trouble than it's worth?

What's wrong with vbr? As I see it it is a nice (and not that) little feature. It does save space when every pause and lo-fi crackle isn't encoded at the maximum bitrate..

Real simple, Oleg... WinXP is shite. Tweak a little more, Ral. XP [Pro, that is] is the best thing to happen to my winders computing life, and you know me - I run just about every kinda program there is. And, you know how much I cussed MS, et al. before this (still do for some things). =] What kinda problems you havin? Anybody agree that vbr mp3's reek?
Absolutely. I think my hearing is a little too sensitive, though. Most of my buds cant tell a difference in em, but I can - VBRs seem to have this wierd wattery, metallic but slightly washed out tone to them. Akin to badly compressed songs back in the early days of MPx, but a little more subtle and dynamic. Any way ya describe it, though, it's not good for the song. I think I'll hunt for a decent VBR-specific decoder/decomp that can automatically figure out high/low rates. Oh, and a little more on topic... what's with that UI? Whoever drew that thing in f'n MSPaint should be drowned in sour cream - without chives! *wink wink*

Driver problems, Vesh, they cannot be solved -- XP uses the same NT5 drivers for intel740 as win2k and still, win2k displays things a lot smoother. Something is f*cked up in the heart of XP, so I better wait for SP1, maybe they find it. the refresh for 2d display is somewhat odd. hmmm Better to say, we lack of proper double-buffering, imho.
Which UI you mean, btw?

Whether it is possible to add an opportunity to open directories or whole disks? For example by click of the right button of the mouse...
Thanks.

Pardon this, it's all offtopic.
*slaps Ral*
That's Intel showing thier colors, man. Not MS. XP is fine, you shouldn't slam it because Intel refuses to support thier products in a timely manner. A good example is my Intel webcam - the thing is decent, but there are a few nitpicky things I dont like about the drivers - easy fixes. Intel hasn't brought out new ones since the thing was made in 2000 and the driver CDs were pressed on inferior media. For the longest time, I couldn't even use it because the CD drives I had couldn't read the disc and The Big I didn't offer the drivers on thier site.
I set up a business app system for a chick with i740. All I had to do was traverse the bowels of the Intel site for the new XP drivers, worked slick as a ribbon. Decent performance, too. If you want better performance (especially in D3D), you can even find the unofficial betas made for win2k and force feed em to XP. I didn't do this, though - she only needed it for surfing and spreadsheet junk. I really think you should just endure the shipping costs and get a real video card, though (GF4 TI4400, I say - might as well get something that'll last a good while). Intel just isn't too serious about the graphics market to keep users like us happy.
About the UI, though, just jokin around. =] Trying to poke a little fun at myself.

Newstar, I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but if you're wanting to open directories or whole disks on the playlist, then just drag the folder into the playlist bar. XMplay will automatically search for and load all playable file types. -_-~ ps- Vesh & Ral, let's keep the slapping to a minimum, okay? Don't get into a pinching fight over what runs better on what. Objectiveness is a good thing.
