X68000 MDX in XMPlay
« on: 2 Apr '14 - 00:56 »
Greetings.
I was wondering if anyone here has been able to configure the winamp plugin "in_mdx" to work properly in XMPlay. For me, it seems to play alright but on a lot of songs it cuts off before the song is finished playing. I also tested it in winamp and it exhibits the same behavior.
I have attached an MDX file for testing in case anyone needs it.
If there is anyone else on these forums who is interested in the MDX playback on XMPlay and knows how to get this plugin to work properly or if there is another plugin which would work better please let me know. Thank you.

Does the plugin maybe have an option for a default song time in case the song duration is missing from the file? If that's the case, you could try setting this to a higher value.

Yes. That is the same thing that happens to me when I play it.

It turns out that this was the case. Because that all of the options were in Japanese, I was unable to determine the cause of the problem before. I have recompiled in_mdx.dll with english translated options. File uploaded as attachment. Thank you for the help.

Thank you for the suggestion. If I have any more problems it'll be good to know I have another program that can play the music files correctly with to compare to.

Which version(s) of the MDX plugin files are the English translations based on? There are multiple MXDRV/X68SOUND.DLL revisions:

X68Sound.dll:
Puusan: https://web.archive.org/web/20040215053317/http://homepage1.nifty.com/mpuusan/x68sound/
Hiroaki GOTO (Gorry): http://gorry.haun.org/mx/index_e.html
Sato (RuRuRu): http://www.vesta.dti.ne.jp/~tsato/soft_sound.html

in_mdx.dll:
Tanimoto: https://web.archive.org/web/20040804173232/http://www.page.sannet.ne.jp/i-tanimoto/
Sato (RuRuRu): http://www.vesta.dti.ne.jp/~tsato/soft_sound.html

I pretty sure I used:
Sato (RuRuRu): http://www.vesta.dti.ne.jp/~tsato/soft_sound.html
for "in_mdx". I'm not 100% sure where I pulled the x68sound.dll from but the one posted at
Sato (RuRuRu): http://www.vesta.dti.ne.jp/~tsato/soft_sound.html
seems to be newer than the one i used. I can reupload an updated version of the translated plugin with the newer x68sound.dll included. I'm not too skilled in knowledge of the x68000 and I went by the latest revision when I chose which version of In_mdx to use. If you have any insight you can provide me with I'd be glad to revise or update either of the components if I am able to.

I know this post is old but why open a new thread on such a niche plugin, so while the english translation from jbb666 works "ok" it does not display quite right and words get cut out so I grabbed the sources and fixed that up.
Along the way I also fixed some minor bugs in the plugin itself and updated it to be fully unicode - so mdx titles will properly display even on a non-japanese OS and files with whatever name you give it can be loaded up.
I hope if somebody in the future is looking for this particular plugin it will be useful to them.

Should probably get this english + fixes version added to the support site so it doesn't get buried down here. :)

Yep, would be good to add it to the support site. I note it requires additional files. It would be convenient for users if they could all be packaged together in a single download. Is there a reason that they are not currently, eg. author permission?

The current one on the support site does have all 3 dlls together, I just didnt want to on github because they are not directly part of that repository but it should be fine to pack them together for the support site again.

I forgot to mention earlier that this plugin update is now up on the XMPlay support site.
