Hi Ian and others.

First off, I love XMPlay. I hear some ppl moaning about the interface, but it's much better than it used to be. I guess there'd be more than one scene graphician willing to skin this puppy if you ever implement that as a feature or ask though. Smiley

I just have 2 things to moan about myself... One is that some modules (old protracker .mod's in particular) are sometimes composed so that the sample being used is only stated 1 time (the 1st of a series of notes), and then all the subsequent notes aren't stated to use that same sample, because it's a given. These notes don't seem to be played correctly, atleast some of the time. I'm guessing this is because the user has used the Dxy command to quiet the previous note or inserted a volume 0, knowing that the next note would use the default volume (64 for example) and then that is inherited by all the subsequent notes. When I play these modules in Impulse Tracker, they seem to play these notes correctly.

The other is that when I try to use a codec for wavewriting(Lame ACM, I can't remember which version, it's installed and selectable though), it'll just create a .wav file. I think it actually says that the .mp3 cannot be created and then it defaults to .wav, but it's all happening so fast... I guess this won't be a problem with the new version though, so all in all it's a non-issue.

Again, XMPlay gets mad props. =)

There are a few alternative skins being made. There are a couple of posts around here with screenies Smiley

I'm not sure yet whether XMPlay will be publicly skinnable though.

Please upload any dodgy files you have to ftp://un4seen.com/incoming/ and I'll check'em out.

The problem seems to be the sample cutoff command. Not volumes which I thought at first. I've actually made you a 2 pattern example and the whole thing is explained within the file. It's called WZUP.it and is in your incoming. =)

The thing is that alot of .mod greats like Dizzy/CNCD and Heatbeat/CNCD often used the sample cutoff command in their lead phrases for instance but they only 'set' the sample on the 1st note. All subsequent samples weren't, because then it'd be easier to change the sample used from one to the other to see which suited more. I guess this is actually the same for volumes, but if the volume for a note isn't given then it's inherited and that's the way it should be (allthough maybe not using volume effects?), so I was out on my limbs on that one. Smiley

But I think the sample cutoff shouldn't be inherited unless it is specifically stated using, in Impulse's case, an Sxy command to continue the SCx.

Just hope it's clear what I mean.

Thanks for the file... I've sorted it now for the IT format (S3M format too - I hope S3M does the same thing Grin), but do you know which other formats handle note cuts like this? The XM format does not (FT2 does what XMPlay currently does with your IT file), so I'm not sure that most MOD formats would either?

Akc.. I had to reinstall XP because of a new mainboard.

I'm not sure if they (.mod) will sound off in XMPlay, I just know that this technique is (or was) very common with musicians on Amiga. Or even early FT and SBStudio users on PC. =) Since they didn't have their volume, etc column.

I can try to sift through every .mod I have and see... Though with .xm's being ok, I can't imagine they would be much different.

Well, thanks for the bugfix. Looking forward to the next version now. Wink
