After more than a month of work, I am proud to present a remastered version of my old "iXMPlay" skin, which was initially released late 2005 and will turn 20 years old this November! ;D

Here's the readme:
QuoteThe original "iXMPlay" skin was made from screenshots from Apple's Xcode and iTunes, but since MacOS 10.4 Tiger was not DPI-aware yet, all of these GUI elements were pretty low-res. In the face of modern high-DPI screens, old skins appeared very small and Windows' DPI scaling produced a blurry mess. To remedy this problem, XMPlay has been offering an option to scale small skins by 2x for a while, but that left all skins look pixelated - it was time for a proper remaster.

To make this skin future-proof, all elements were fully redrawn as vector graphics using Inkscape, trying to match the original bitmaps as closely as possible. In the process, a few small issues from the original skin were fixed and PNG transparency was taken full advantage of.

How to use these skins in their native resolution without Windows DPI scaling:
- Find xmplay.exe and go to its properties
- In the "Compatibility" tab, click the "Change high DPI settings" button
- In the next dialog, enable the "High DPI scaling override" and set it to "Application".
(Warning: native XMPlay dialogs like the preferences will now appear very small on a high-resolution screen.)
I remastered both the normal and the widescreen version. Enjoy! :)

Good news! These steps are no longer necessary with the recent XMPlay update that is DPI-aware:

Wow, what a nice surprise! Thank you :)
I guess this means that if you actually liked the way Windows scaled things before, you'll have to go through the steps I mentioned and set the override to "System", right? :D

Yeah, that seems to work. The "System (Enhanced)" setting seems to work even better as text is less blurry then.
