What is the maximum number of samples BASS supports for IT playback?

I thought I had remembered Modplug Tracker allowing up to 999 samples, but looking at it now, with the pattern value for instruments and the instrument note table both using byte values, 255 would seem to be the absolute maximum.  Is 255 the maximum number of samples?

Yep, the maximum the IT file format allows is 255. I think MPT's limit is 199, maybe that's what you were thinking of.
