Simple question but if I'm playing a 44100hz stereo 16 bit file how many btyes per sample are there?

16 bit = 2 bytes per sample
Stereo = 2 samples per sample

2*2 = 4 bytes per sample.

44100 samples per second = 44100 * 4 = 176 400 bytes per second = 1,4 megabit per second (*8).
