I would just like to recommend the Enhancer
Winamp DSP wrapper to anyone who is not using it yet.  It`s available for download at the support site.  It takes a bit of time to configure
it to suit your particular sound setup but it`s well worth it.  Excellent., it has significally improved my sound quality. Wink

I used Enhancer for a long time with XMPlay, but recently I realised that XMPlay in fact sounds better without it (due to the BASS decoder - this isn't true of other players). It's certainly good fun trying out the different DSP effects Enhancer can produce, though.

I think the trick is to lower the bass levels of XMPlay when using the enhancer.  It is only when I started to play around with XMPlay`s own bass settings that I got the desired effect.  I also lowered the harmonic bass and drum bass settings of the enhancer to level 3.  The other settings for enhancer I left at level 5.  This gave me the  effect I wanted.  My current settings are:  XMPlays EQ - 63 hz=1.6dB; 250hz=0.5dB; 1khz=0dB; 4khz=0dB; 16khz=1.9dB.  The enhancer`s settings as described above.  You can then fine tune by changing the output settings of your hi-fi system to get to the final result with which you will be comfortable with.  It worked for me, it`s definitely worth a try.

I'm starting to see XMPlay application crashes in Windows 7 x64 when using Enhancer 0.17 within the Winamp DSP Wrapper. I haven't had this trouble previously.

I understand that Enhancer 0.17 is a third party plugin and there is no expectation that this plugin would have support from the XMPlay developers, but maybe someone in the community has a solution.

Components:
XMPlay 3.5.1.43
xmp-wadsp.dll (6,521 bytes, no version or date information), in Plugins folder of XMPlay directory
dsp_enh.dll 0.1.7.0 in XMPlay/Plugins/DSP directory of XMPlay directory

The crash occurs when moving the ambience slider.

My current XMPlay setup is new, from the XMPlay Megapack installation provided by a user.

Here is the crash information from Windows:
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH
  Application Name:   xmplay.exe
  Application Version:   3.5.1.43
  Application Timestamp:   4cc6ecfa
  Fault Module Name:   dsp_enh.dll
  Fault Module Version:   0.1.7.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:   3bd138a6
  Exception Code:   c0000005
  Exception Offset:   00002707
  OS Version:   6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
  Locale ID:   1033
  Additional Information 1:   0a9e
  Additional Information 2:   0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
  Additional Information 3:   0a9e
  Additional Information 4:   0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

Perhaps the setup from the Megapack is a bit different; I still have my old XMPlay folder and setup. I'll check that and see if I find anything.

OK, I've discovered the problem is related to use of the Wasapi output plugin (1.0.3.0), which I've recently been using/testing. If the DirectSound output is used, Enhancer does not cause the crashes. I don't know if these points to a flaw in the Wasapi output plugin, incompatibility with Enhancer 0.17, or what.

Interesting, but now with XMPlay version 3.5.1.46 I'm not having this trouble!

The MegaPack uses the latest Enhancer and stuff version, whenever possible.

This problem still exists in XMPlay version 3.0.6.25. I'm using Wasapi output plugin version 1.0.3.3. Enhancer works initially, but whenever I move the Ambience slider in Enhancer XMPlay will crash. Problem details are displayed as follows:
