How about using MP3Tag (www.mp3tag.de) for things like that? :)

It will be better that the XMplay has this plugin.
Just like STP ;)

Why should Ian reinvent the wheel? There are free programs out there that have their own interface and can do the job pretty well. Implementing something like this into XMPlay is mere bloatage, not to mention the hassle with the GUI.

A simple renaming function according to the tag wouldn't be too bad I guess, but I think it's still too much of a hassle vs. importance to be of high priority. If Ian completely runs out of ideas at some point, then sure, but otherwise I'd leave it for those dedicated programs.

Even given Pike's comments, I don't see a reason why an audio player (especially one for which we're trying to keep the footprint and bloat to a minimum) should perform file management functions.

There have been rumours here about XMPlay adding media library-type stuff, and if so then file renaming would be a useful addition.

Well, I can clearly see a reason, and I don't think it would be a bad idea at all to add ability to rename music files straight from the player. That would probably be quite simple too, but making it read tags for files, and so on, would probably be more work than it's worth - at least at this point.

Well, as a very basic law of programming logic (or something..) goes: "If you see info somewhere, you should be able to change it there too." ;D

Besides, isn't file deleting a file management function too? ::)
It hasn't bothered me at least.

I'm not saying "don't do it". I'm just saying "I wouldn't do it". :P

That's what i wanna say.
I just like a small function. BTW,however,XMplay is not running on Unix.Should a windowser use a software to do a function , like a unixer?

I'm against it on principle. It starts with one "harmless little feature" then eventually turns into a toaster oven/waffle maker/VCR/toenail clipper.

mp3Tag.

Google is your friend.

I never could figure out why people put mp3 (or any) taggers in a player - waste of space and effort.

Hah. Every imaginable function can turn into that, if not being considerate. Have a rename function, have a toaster, the choice is yours ;).

i wouldn't use it...  but when xmplay's going to have a media library, something like a tag/filename editor would be nice. but then there should be options too, cause not everybody likes artist - filename.ext. it's gonna give Ian a load of work (or maybe he already did it as an unknown feature of 3.2 ;) ).

Now I'm sure the toaster was meant to be added back in 2.7 or something...

The Godfather.
Does anything I can think of with any audio file I have.

Has a library if you like and can be configured to use any player.

But for me, the main thing is the tagging/renaming and AMG info retrieval.

FYI, AMG is chock-full of errors. It can't be trusted with getting anything right, really.

And your alternative is what? freedb? Personally I find AMG to be quite good compared to the alternatives.
