Ok, lately I've been hitting up Pandora (oh, oh... if only I could hear it through XMPlay instead of damn Flash) and getting some decent stuff.

Lately some interesting ones that've shown up are: Solvent, Piney Gir, Air, Hybrid, Albino Allstars, Icon of Coil (damn you Ralesk!)... and suddenly I realize that this'll be a long and strange list if I continue. My tastes are kinda eclectic. I've also been hitting up OCRemix quite a bit and listening to movie scores - cant count the amount of times I've looped the Batman Begins score.

Generally though, I'm heading toward strange stuff. Things that aren't really quite rock, aren't "nu rock" or any of that garbage, but more just... slightly trippy with a touch of electronic. Any suggestions?

Anyway talk! About non-tracked "regular" music.  =]

Saxon Shore - The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore (2005)
I have nooooooooo clue if you'll like it. It's instrumental, semi-epic post-rock with some sparse electronica elements.
If you end up liking it, you'll probably like God Is an Astronaut too.

I have some Pandora experiences here too. Selected 'Die Krupps', and found a lot of music that made me go "Meh.", but found few pretty good ones too. Cheesy
At least Imperative Reaction, who I've got to listen quite a bit recently. They're kind of rock/metal (without any guitars though), I think 'indrustrial' might be close. Songs Redemption, Arrogance and Malady should be a good starting point. =)
Second, The Fair Sex, who I've listened to a bit less, but still have acquired some of it.. Mother Restless or Run and Hide should give you a good enough image. Same idea as with Imperative, just slightly different approach.

And as far 'trippy' goes, Ozric Tentacles are definately my cup of tea! Songs Sunhair and Waterfall City are the ones that got me into tentacles. Grin

And of course, Die Krupps itself is worth a check. Fatherland and To the Hilt are my picks from them. Also, Rammstein fans might find some familiarities in The Dawning of Doom. >)

Ozric Tentacles are definitely great. Waterfall Cities, Erpland, Swirly Termination, Spirals in Hyperspace, Pyramidion... etc etc. Great psych/prog that.

!
Ian has knowledge of good music!

Personally, I prefer the Gong albums with Allan Holdsworth. Most notably Gazeuse and Gazeuse II (a.k.a. Expresso I & II). But hey, Gong and its offshoots like Gongzilla have been through so many phases and incarnations that they should have something for almost everyone who knows what time it is, so to speak.

(This is an old thread but I thought I should bump it, so here goes: BUMP! Let's talk about music!)

Seeking: GOOD MUSIC
Req: Free (if possible), Small label or Independent, Largely unknown, Any genre, Excellent.

I personally recommend: Nemesis - Net Archeology - Electronic sounds from the North
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/nemesisem
Extremely high quality ambient/electronica. Intelligent stuff. I have practically every album, all in frequent use. Personal favorites: Sky Archeology, Cyberiad, and Xcelsior. Bit hard to find as they have had their troubles with labels. New version of the Gigaherz album (with a new label...) is now promised.

I am also a great fan of S.H.E: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srGToRDxhgI
My guilty pleasure... I have 4 albums. Taiwanese CD:s are cheap and contain all kind of fun extras, like video CDs and DVDs. Grin

Good stuff. Smiley I need writing music with a 'klang'.

I'm currently running through the Kahvi collective: http://kahvi.org/news.php
Tons of stuff (gigabytes!), but two quick picks worth downloading:

16.12./2005    release #165: Xerxes for Dummies
29.01./2007    release #203: zoo by workbench

(Oh, and in bit more regular music, Poets of the Fall is making a new album. Their first two ones rocked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRVrQsdWDds I like their sense of humour. Grin )

Ian, these are absolutely beautiful, thank you so much!

If any of you guys like melancholic music, cantaloup - "TONIGHT IT SHOWS" is something worth listening to. It comes from http://aerotone.300l600.de/index.php. Smiley
