What happened to the "Clean Reg" button in 3.3?  Even though the settings are stored in an .ini file now (THANKS!!!), XMPlay still insists on creating HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\XMPlay in the registry, so now there is no way to truly "uninstall" XMPlay. 

Acually, instead of bringing back the Clean Reg button, it would be better to not require the registry entry at all if some "portable" variable was set in the .ini file.

Actually, XMPlay shouldn't create that registry entry in the first place - it even copies all of the stuff from the registry (if detected) to the INI-file and deletes the reg values afterwards.

In the end, I would like to throw XMPlay on a USB flash drive, and be able to use it on a machine without leaving any mess after unplugging the drive.  Nothing in the registry should refer to XMPlay at all, unless someone CHOOSES to associate file types or enable explorer integration.

That registry key is required if any file type associations are made. It probably should not be created/be deleted if no files are associated with XMPlay.

But isn't this just the basic Windows stuff for filetypes/extensions associated with XMPlay? I don't think you can (or would want to) remove these, if you want to keep the file associations.

Correct, that's the filetype. Don't delete.

Yep, as mentioned, that little branch is needed to associate file types with XMPlay. It's also used for the "Welcome to XMPlay" detection, but that could check the INI file instead now. Anyway, here's an update to try, which should only create the branch when you associate file types with XMPlay or setup the context menu options...

THANKS!  That new version doesn't touch the registry at all.  Perfect for a truly portable app.  This should definitely be the default behavior if shell integration and file associations are turned off.  Thanks again.

File associations if you've set them. And (presuming you're using XP) possibly there is a directory in your Documents & Settings -folder if you've checked the 'Store per-user config/etc'.
