Hello,

I am using Xmplay with my own combination of soundfonts, and I can tell there is no other midi player to offer a such quality of sound and Gapless output.

By the way, an interesting feature to play karaoke is the ability to change the tempo or the key.
I would be highly interested if ever you could plan to add these features.

Actually, when I really need these features, I still use VanBasco, with output to Timidity or Synthfont, but these softsynth are not working well, at least with my own computer.

Best regards, Hunirio

Hello,
I want to download GeneralUser GS V1.43 soundfont at http://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php. But there are 3 version available on the site, Sound Blaster version, FluidSynth version, and Softsynth version. What's version that suitable for XMPlay midi plugin?

thanks..

For XMPlay the best option would be the Softsynth version. FluidSynth may also work but without some special features provided by FluidSynth. The SoundBlaster version may have some pitch issues on certain instruments/songs. With XMPlay though, you can use as many soundfonts as you want and pick and choose the best sounding instruments among them (you probably already know this). I use three or four soundfonts for general midi. After a lot of trial and error, you can find a soundfont or combination of soundfonts which will play almost any gm/gs song out there.

Thanks for Rev. 9 of the midi plugin! Where can we find the change log from version 8 to 9?

Revision 9 adds support for a few more MIDI events...

   Attack time (controller 73, NRPN 163h)
   Release time (controller 72, NRPN 166h)
   Drum key level (NRPN 1Axxh)

I think that I must give my COMPLIMENTS to Ian for him implementation of midi ATTACK/RELEASE event! Now BASSMIDI work as an excellent GS/GM soft-syntetizer! THANKS A LOT Ian!

For this plug-in I wanna suggest some idea:

- possibility to change the COLOR of fonts played/unplayed of Karaoke window, and to add some background picture
- add a MIDI mixer to MUTE midi channels, and change some parameter as preset,volume,reverb,chorus,pan...

Thanks too, Ian!

Sounds like you're looking for a MIDI editor more than a MIDI player. XMPlay is the latter.

Hiya Folks,

Long time, no type <G>. Here is a rather interesting SoundFont with demo MIDIs that have been sitting on my hard drive for quite some time now... finally decided to get off of my butt and finish them (and upload them to one of my servers).

The SoundFont was created a while back using the five basic sound effects heard in the Mattel Intellivision game console cartridge "Astrosmash" from yesteryear:

Explosion Large
Explosion Small
Missile Tone
Woosh Long
Woosh Short

Presets in the Soundfont include:

0 = Explosion Small
1 = Explosion Large
2 = Missile Tone
3 = Missile Tone Chime
4 = Missile Tone Pop
5 = Missile Tone Synth
6 = Woosh Short
7 = Woosh Long

Linkage:

http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/Astrosmash.txt
http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/Astrosmash.zip

Download, unzip, read the text file, and play the MIDIs (enable autoloading of matching MIDI/SF2 filenames within the XMPlay MIDI plugin's configuration window)... surprising, isn't it <G>?

Anyhow, hope y'all like 'em Smiley

Go Inty!

Hehe, glad to see someone else here is old enough to remember the greatest game console ever made <G>! Smiley

BTW, here's another (been sitting on my HD for years):

http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/DOOM2Sfx.txt
http://www.cmoo.com/snor/weeds/SoundFonts/DOOM2Sfx.zip

Includes SoundFont and demo MIDI. Hehe, bet you didn't think those monsters could actually sing <LOL>?

P.S. (I'm sure I've prolly posted this here before)

One of these days I *really* need to get off of my arse and upload my own custom GM compatable SoundFont... weighs in at 36,199,620 bytes (609 user samples, 36,018,946 bytes of user samples, 142 instruments, 128 melodic presets, and 9 percussive presets/drum kits), and sounds quite a bit better than most any SoundFont that I've heard (including Chorium) <IMHO>. Quite painful, as I'm on a (miserable) dialup, and the SFArk-ed SF2 is around 20 megs <ugghh>.

7-Zip seems to have something against your ZIP files and won't open them Sad

Trying the "unzip" utility, it says "note:  didn't find end-of-central-dir signature at end of central dir". So perhaps there is a slight problem with the archiver used to create them.

Hmmm... that's really strange. Must have something to do with the way that I ZIP stuff up (?).

I use PKZIP Command Line v4.50.20 for Windows since I migrated to my new XP PC (the old PKZIP for DOS that I used for eons doesn't support long filenames under an NTFS file system... although it does under FAT32 <aarrgghh>; W98SE was my previous OS).

With PKZIP Command Line v4.50.20 I add my own registered "Authenticity Verification" (AV) stamping (which is what I used to do with the older PKZIP for DOS), as well as my own current public digital "certificate". On all of the PCs I've tried it on, PKZIP for DOS is able to extract the files correctly, as well as WinZIP. Also, the built-in unzipper in "Total Commander" works fine as well.

Dunno what could cause the problem with 7-ZIP. Can you give WinZIP a try and lemme know if it works?

P.S. When testing an archive using PKZIP-CL, here's what I see:

PKZIP(R)  Version 4.50  FAST! Compression Utility for Windows
Copyright 1989-2001 PKWARE Inc.  All Rights Reserved. Registered Version
PKZIP Reg. U.S. Pat. and Tm. Off.  Patent No. 5,051,745

Testing files from .ZIP: DOOM2Sfx.zip
Testing: DOOM2Sfx.ins   OK -AV

Testing: DOOM2Sfx.mid   OK -AV

Testing: DOOM2Sfx.sf2   OK -AV

Testing: DOOM2Sfx.txt   OK -AV

Authentic Files Verified!   # RWN863

BTW, I'm not sure if this will help, but if you wish, you can install my public digital certificate (attached ZIP doesn't use AV or digital certificate stamping, as I used Total Commander's internal zipper to ZIP it the file up). Unzip and double-click on the enclosed "RichNagel.cer" file to install my public digital certificate to the Windows Trusted Root Certification Authorities store (database) on your computer.

P.P.S. @All: Has anyone else had problems unzipping any of the files?

On DOOM2Sfx.zip, WinZip reports no errors at all and WinRAR has an unexpected end of archive (similar to 7-Zips problem). The files can be extracted properly, but I guess WinRAR and 7-Zip don't like (or know) the verification you've used.

Thanks for the info Smiley BTW, I surfed over to the 7-Zip site and had a look at their message forums. One message was a suggestion refering to "SecureZIP" support for 7-Zip. IIRC, PKWare's SecureZIP product was the first to introduce adding digital certificates to ZIPs... so's I'm assuming that's what the problem is.

Nevertheless, the other unzippers that I've tried work fine (the old PKUNZIP for DOS (which is *way* older than SecureZIP and the current version of PKZIP CL that I'm currently using), the internal Total (Windows) Commander unzipper, and WinZIP).

Curious:  Why not use Windows XP's ZIP support?  Right-click > Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder

Hehe, mostly simply because I'm hard-headed <LOL>!

I didn't realize that the digital certificates would be a problem, but I've been using AV stamps for eons now (have a registered version of PKZIP for DOS, and then migrated to PKZIP CL for Windows). These are the only versions that I can add AV stamps with, and I myself prefer command-line zipping (* - see 'hard-headed' above <G>).

Hey, I'm wondering if there is any new development going on now with the midi plugin, besides trouble fixes?

No, nothing much has changed since the last release (rev.9); the only real change is the addition of the soundfont config presets, which is in the "stuff" updates. Why, do you have something that needs adding? Smiley
