I agree with Brian... nice update!
Streams do not timeout as much as before!

[EDIT - July 17]
While listening to any BBC Listen Again RA stream, no matter what I do the RA stream stops at 2:40 min into the show...
maybe it is something to do with the BBC RTSP server?

if anybody can play a BBC stream past 2:40 min, can somebody post their network stream settings?

thanks!

I tried playing all sort of BBC streams for long time before releasing the last version and it was OK. Maybe something changed again... SIGH.

Hey Fraggie,

It might just be me... that's why I asked if anybody had trouble as well.
Are you experiencing the same problem, Fraggie?

I wonder if anyone else could chime in and give us their results with BBC Radio streams as well.

I just tried BBC World Service, nothing wrong up to 6 minutes. XMPlay even plays it better than Realplayer.

BBC Listen Again (the World Book Club... ::)) works fine here with XMPlay (11:30 now). Realplayer 11 plays it fine as well, the only difference is that it sends Transport Info about the buffered bytes and timestamps on the servers request.

Network settings: Timeout=10, Buffer=10, Prebuf=3, Restrict rate and Auto-reconnect ticked. Note that the actual buffering by xmp-ra never reaches 7 seconds, it's 12KB at maximum.

The latest RA plugin version has been working great for me with BBC streams (at least the one that I listen to fairly regularly). The only issue I've noticed is that it can lock-up XMPlay while rebuffering (perhaps due to a mutex shared by the plugin's functions?).

Hmm weird...

My copy of XMPlay on my flash drive plays the BBC streams fine.
The version of the RealAudio plugin on my flash drive is "beta8-pre".

I downgraded the RA plugin on my local computer and now the streams play past 2:40 min, but is a bit unstable.

---

I have noticed the lock up when it tries to rebuffer on the current version.
When I had the latest "beta8" version working, it was playing smoothly... I just have to figure out what I did so I can undo it!

All OK here - an hour-long BBC programme plays right through without a hitch.

I'm having trouble reaching the author's website to get this plugin - can anyone host this somewhere more reliable?  I'd love to be able to try this out but it's no possible ATM.

xmp-ra beta7 can be downloaded from the Support Site. For beta8, you'll have to wait till Fraggie gets his site back online, or tell us your real email adress ;).

I've got 6.0.7.4994, the latest version is 6.0.14.826. Can you listen to the stream properly with RealPlayer?

That sounds like a trick question - no one in their right mind would install actual RealPlayer on their computer :P.

Actually, it's no worse than WMP or iTunes. Keep them away from the associations, stop the services, hide them in a folder and they work pretty well :).

I just downgraded to Real Alternative 1.75 from 1.9, in the hopes it was a codec problem.

14_43260.dll - 6.07.4994
28-83260.dll - 6.07.4995
atrc.dll - 10.0.0.3702
cook.dll - 10.0.0.3008
ddnt3260.dll - 6.0.7.5189
dnet3260.dll - 6.0.7.5189
raac.dll - 10.0.0.1408
ralf.dll - 10.0.0.290
sipr.dll - 10.0.0.3699

But I still get the same lock up at 2:40 min... I might have to try a fresh installation of XMPlay.

The codec DLL's are used only to decode the stream data. If you can hear anything, downgrading them will not make any difference, so just use the latest greatest versions available.

I've checked some BBC streams and they are playing fine here, so please post links to particular streams that are making trouble for you. Also what's the speed of your internet connection?

When you say "locks" do you mean that it's
 - rebuffering indefinitely,
 - stops playing and restarts,
 - XMPlay is dead to user input?

Hi Fraggie,

I'm having trouble with the following:
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/peterson.ra
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/1xtra/deviation.ra

Both streams lock up (rebuffers) at 2:40 min and will attempt to play from 2:40 min, but only 1/10 of a sec at a time as it rebuffers every 10 seconds or so.  So I wouldn't say it rebuffers "indefinitely".

I have cable but I use a wireless internet connection in my house.  That shouldn't be an issue because I can download at consistent high speeds.

----------

Also for the RealAudio plugin settings, I only have the "Display" options checked, I have left the rest unchecked.

I'm using the latest XMPlay "stuff" version, currently at 3.4.2.68.

My Internet streaming options in XMPlay are as follows:
Timeout: 10
Buffer: 10
Prebuf: 7
Proxy: checked (nothing typed in the field)
Restrict Rate: checked
Auto-reconnect: unchecked

----------

[EDIT]
With "Proxy" unchecked, I can play past 2:40 min, but it will lock up anywhere between 2:40 min and 3:10 min now... odd.

Thanks for looking into this, Fraggie!

rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/peterson.ra
It works over here, easily past 2:40 and 3:10. I did notice a 'timeout=80' in the packets sent by XMPlay (the server confirms this timeout), which is conveniently half of 2:40. Ticking the Proxy box doesn't change anything.
Could you tick 'Limit network cache size' to see if that matters?

Hi Dotpitch,

Checking "Limit network cache size" doesn't seem to change anything.
This time, I get locked up at 2:57 min...  :(

RA plugin beta 9 is now available.
It fixes connection keepalive mechanism, thus solving djray's issue.

Please test it for a while. Hopefully it'll work fine for everyone. :)

Many thanks for this.

I'm not trying to be funny, but when do you foresee that the plugin might come out of beta?

In that case, I'm sorry to say that with beta 9, BBC streams consistently cut off after a couple of minutes. This doesn't happen with beta 8.

Example:

rtsp://rm.bbc.co.uk:554/worldservice/newshour2000.ra
