That is why I like OGG - it's natively multichannel-capable and has better sound than MP3 at the same bitrate. Upmixing stereo to multichannel sounds horrible with inappropriately-encoded MP3s, but you can always mirror the sound to the rear speakers - no quality loss (beyond MP3 compression).

Hello Rah'dick,
Just a thought - wouldn't it be better if skins preview included both full and mini modes ?

Yep, it would. But it's easier for me to maintain the site this way. Currently it just takes minimal effort to get new things online and I want to keep away everything that'd consume more time. I still have to take screenshots against a white background and edit them manually. I thought about this a number of times already, tho. It'd be not too hard, considering the underlying site structure and database... I might do it. Together with a script that plugin programmers can use to get the latest version of any plugin - for auto-updaters, for instance.

Snakemeat's post over in the VGM thread reminded me that the version of MSXplug over at http://dsa.sakura.ne.jp/ is at version 0.34, and was released Dec 2006. The Support Site still has v0.31

FALSE VIRUS ALERT I found out that the CosmicNebulae visual plug-in is reported as infected with Trojan.Peed.Gen by several antiviruses. I tested this file with VirusTotal after my antivirus (BitDefender 10 IS, one of the best) alerted me that it is infected. It seemed very weird, because this virus has been discovered a lot later then the visual was created, so I sent the file for analysis to BitDefender Labs, and they answered that it really is a FALSE POSITIVE. THE FILE IS 100% CLEANSo, for anyone who uses one of the following antiviruses: AntiVir , eSafe , Ikarus , Panda , Sunbelt , Webwasher-Gatewayignore the alerts about this file. @Rah'Dick: You should add a note about this on the Support Site, for future reference.

I think I should just re-upload the visual as .zip, that should solve the problem Thanks for the notice!

I think I should just re-upload the visual as .zip, that should solve the problem Thanks for the notice! You're welcome. But uploading the visual as a zip file won't fix anything. The problem is not about the installer of the visual. It's about the visual itself ( CosmicNebulae.svp), so it doesn't matter how you upload it on the Support Site, cos it will still be considered a threat by some AVs.

Ok then, some AVs recognize the installer itself as virus, I thought it might be this. I'll add a notice to the download then.

Not the installer, Tom... he's saying the plug-in file flagged the anti-virus.

Alright, I got it already. [Edit (2007-03-29)] I'll be writing my diploma thesis from April on and I'm moving to Ingolstadt, Germany for the next six months. This means, that I'll have to organize an internet connection first, which will keep me offline for at least a month (or so). Just wanted to tell ya folks. I'll be here reading, tho. (That is, if I get a computer at work that has a net connection.) @Ian: I already gave you the login for the Support Site, didn't I? Just put XMP 3.4 online if you like - the admin interface is fairly intuitive (or so I think). You'll probably find out how to use it. FYI, Keltic Danor has his own login, but didn't use it yet. Cheers, everyone!

A little hint or tip (for the FAQ?) - to make a handy list of radio "bookmarks" create a folder somewhere convenient, calling it "radio" or something equally original, then, navigating to the site of your choice, ShoutCast, IceCast or whatever, right-click one of the "Tune In" buttons, and choose "save link as". Save file to your new folder, and rename it if necessary to the name of the station, e.g. "Drone Zone", "StillStream" etc. Fill up your folder with your favourite stations.
You can then right-click your taskbar, select "toolbars", then "new toolbar..." and choose your new folder location from the navigation box that will pop up. Click OK, and you'll have a handy little pop-up list just by the side of the system tray, all ready to instantly select a station, which will start XMPlay and automatically play the stream. No need for Winamp's bookmarks ;-)

Just noticed - the Beginner's Guide file for the extended playlist / library / info window is missing - link returns as follows:
HTTP 404 - Not Found
The specified file could not be found.
Searching for the term "Guide_InfoWindow.html" returned the following results: Search results for "Guide_InfoWindow.html" Articles (1)
(2.1) The Main Panel [which of course is where we started - PVTele]

It's just a bad link (from the previous version). Now it's (2.4) The info window.

nevi updated his equalizer plugin, now it has 250 bands!!! http://coyote.freeweb.hu/winamp/Haven't tryed it yet, so i don't know how well it works on xmplay, but i'm pretty sure 250 bands will be overkill for my poor duron@800Mhz :P There's also a noise reduction plugin on his page (never heard of it before).

Well, what do you know? it seem like it uses less cpu over here than the old version (even at low quality setting)! The new versión seems to have an integrated buffer cleaner and three frequency scaling methods. Linear seems the cleaner one, Logaritmic sounded weird, low frequency sounded like under-water... I'll try it out a little bit more
