Is there any chance that someone has produced a beta version or plugin of some sort to make XMPlayer run .m4p files?
I tried it with the .m4a file adapter, but it didn't work for it.

The p in m4p stands for protected, probably by Apple (iTunes Music), so it's difficult to make a plugin to play it. You could try renaming it to m4a, does the plugin recognize the file (like tags, stream information)?
