Hello. I must say that XMPlay without doubt is the greatest player I've ever used. Love everything about it.

I do miss support for the NES-music format (.nsf) though. A plugin would be great. I would have done it myself if I just had som more experience.

I found a site that might be helpful. What do you think?

Rah'Dick, now would be a good time to pester you to add NSFPlug to the list. One of the best plugins quality-wise, though requires a spiffy CPU to run with the better resample modes (similar to xmp-sid). Has some nifty features like automatic time detection, something akin to SLDB and channel viewer.
I haven't been using anything else for my NSF needs for quite a while.

Is NSFplug really superior to NEZplug? I've been using the latter for a long time now...

Yes it is. There's an example recording on the author's site, you can compare that to the way NEZPlug handles the song.
I've also heard some problems in NEZPlug here and there. Think it was with some Tim Follin's music, Solstice IIRC.

I used to use NotSoFatso, but stopped when I realized that there really isn't a whole lot of support for NSFe files out there. Too bad; I would prefer a one-track-one-file format Sad Makes it easier to convert to MP3/etc for iPodding.

There's extended M3U too that you can make yourself. Supported by both NEZplug and NSFPlug.

Really? Is there a FAQ on that somewhere?

No FAQ AFAIK, but they are just standard text files. Here's the entry syntax:

filename::NSF,[1 based songno|$songno],[title],[time(h:m:s)],[loop(h:m:s)][-],[fade(h:m:s)],[loopcount]

Here's an example list:

# Solstice (CSG Imagesoft) [1989]
# Composer: Tim Follin

Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$06,Title - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,2:57,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$01,Begin - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,26,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$02,Main Theme - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,112,113,7
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$05,Ending - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,81,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$04,Success - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,18,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$03,Failure - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,12,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$07,Unknown 01 - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,168,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$11,Unknown 02 - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,10,,1
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$12,Unknown 03 - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,4,,2
Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$13,Unknown 04 - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,4,,2

If you keep the playlist outside of the archive, you can try adding the archive to the path, for example:

Tim_Follin.zip|Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$06,Title - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,2:57,,1
Tim_Follin.zip|Solstice (1989)(CSG Imagesoft).nsf::NSF,$01,Begin - Tim Follin - Solstice - ©1989 CSG Imagesoft,26,,1

Does that work?

Unfortunately, multi file loading from archives (either *+m3u or xsflib+minixsf) work only for native XMPlay plugins (so, in_psf effectively).
Just enable drive compression in Windows for the folder you store the NSFs here, if you're that concerned with hdd space.

I don't think that file size is a big issue with nsf files. Smiley Rather keeping the drive tidy...

Knurek, I thought you said in a different forum that NEZplug++ was superior to NSFplug in terms of accuracy.

NEZPlug++ > NSFPlug > NEZPlug

Clear enough?

Sorry.  Thanks.  NEZPlug = obsolete.  NEZPlug++ = best.

Does NEZPlug++ support stereo output on NSF files?

There's an option AlwaysStereo in the INI, but I'm pretty sure all that does is render the audio in stereo for compatibility, though the NSFs would still actually be mono.

If only we could use XMPlay's awesome MOD mixing options for all audio sources (chiptune plugins...)
