Thanks, raina, but I need to encode just few files a week and Métamorphose is an awkward way to do this ;)
P.S. BTW, thanks for the program - it fits my work needs :)

Ok, I just threw that in knowing there's a possibility I was offering you a cannon for killing flies. But if you really only need to rename a couple of files per week, how long is it going to take you to do it manually? :)

Oh, and I'm not opposed to the idea of a checkbox or a secret .INI option for the behavior, just tried to help with a solution in the current situation where neither of them exist.

Here's my suggestion contribution:

The ability to decode and play .669 format files.

I have about two dozen .669 files that XMPlay can't play.

I have a text file detailing the file format if Ian needs it.  It's pretty much another type of 8-channel MOD created by the Composer 669 PCM tracker in the early 1990s.  According to the Wikipedia entry for it, .669 was superceded by the Composer 669 creator's MTM MultiTracker format a year later.

Anyway, I tried a few .669 -> 8-Channel MOD converter apps and they all didn't do a 100% conversion, causing some of the converted files to sound a little off.

Anyway, WinAmp, ModPlugPlayer, and MOD4Win play it fine, as well as Inertia Player 1.22 under DOSBox.  I would just like XMPlay to play it as well, since it is the superior app to all of those.   8)

Slug, tried the MikAmp plugin?

didn't know a plugin existed for the 669 format in XMPlay.

I just installed it and it works fine.  Thanks for the info.

What about an old request of mine :
A length limit function that determines the maximum chars of a string phrase in titles .

my suggestion for xmplay:

- an option to activate/deactivate the main/other window with single click on system tray.

- an option to show both elapsed and remained time in the main window.

- sort the entire (or selection) playlist including option to sort by date of modification.

thank's, the xmplay is the best audio player :)

I vote for this, one-click is more comfortable than double-click.  ;)

One more new suggestion from me:
- What about double right-click in a song on playlist to enqueue it? (one right-click will show the popup menu)  :D

Mmmm, why not this: right click on the stop button makes Xmplay play till the end of the track, then close itself. (I miss only this from the ol' wa times...)

I already requested this one, but maybe it slipped by or I didn't explain myself well.

Thanks anyway.

I use XMPlay daily. I love this program. I've written .bat files to get XMPlay, with windows scheduled tasks, record my favorite radio shows with VCR-like accuracy. I would like to be able to use the external encoders to record one file in either .ogg or .mp3 formats LONGER than 3 hours. For some reason, I have tried both encoders without success.

Secondly, I'd love to share this program with other people. Without an installer, it's hard for the casual computer user to install and use this program. An "Official" installer under 10mbs with the best skins and most used plug-ins would be very cool.

Why would an installer make it easier to use?

Zarg, you'd know if you'd instructed half-a-dozen people how to download, extract and run it. That is people who reply with "I don't know." to "Where'd you save it?". Also who you need to hold hands to get them to extract it somewhere and then to find it. I've actually succeeded twice. :P

I disagree. What is problem with copy files to created folder? XMplay users are not totally lamers!
For what I need all skins when I can choose one and good?
One of "powers" XMPlay is that I do not need reinstall always after Windows dead. All settings is saved in file, not in registry.
For me all programs should be like Xmplay.

It is really not that big of a deal to set everything up manually, honest. I have XMPlay in my start menu without an installer! ;)

It is when you tell someone to extract the files to a certain directory, and they say, "Extract? What's a directory, anyway - how's it different from a folder?"

There's a couple of people I regularly help out who are like that. And no, they're not "lamers" - they just have a blank spot when it comes to PCs. If you told me how to dismantle and reassemble an automatic transmission, I'd be just as helpless  :P

mmmm, I'm basically agains an installer, as they never place things where and how I want, and I don't know what they're doing, after all. (I have to admit that essentials pack approach cold be good, as a starting point for totally new users.)

I think ppl can learn how to use things, even if the start point is near zero knowedgle: I've been able to teach to some of them, who are nearly computer illetterate, and now they can do some stuff themselves, and succesfully. :)

The only thing I'd like it's an improvement to the update checker: the ability to dl and istall available updates, that's would be good! ;)

Well of course you could always have both: an "expert's pack" - basically the zip archive we all know and love, with maybe a couple of extra skins and essential plugins (some tag-editors for instance, and xmp-mid plus a soundfont in a folder) thrown in - and an "easy-install download," being the installer.exe of course. I'm sure Ian could think of appropriate titles for the different packages...

Just a question: who would maintain them (and at the same "level" of actual Xmplay "suppor")?

Latest XMPlay Essentials Pack can be easily transformed (by me :) ) into self-extracting archive (call it installer ;) ). It can even place an icon on the desktop.

Here's an example.

XMPlay uses stdin to feed a wave file to the encoders. But there's a limit to the length of this simulated wave file (about 3 hours and 6 minutes with 44.1 kHz stereo 16 bit sound, the 2^31 bytes break), and Ian hasn't implemented feeding raw pcm (yet). Setting it to 8 bit reduces quality, but doubles your recording time.

Honestly, If you're encoding a file of that length, you should be using the encoder application directly.

Hmm, nice one... what improvement of the mp3 decoder would you suggest? ::)
