I would like to be able to use the external encoders to record one file in either .ogg or .mp3 formats LONGER than 3 hours. For some reason, I have tried both encoders without success.
XMPlay uses stdin to feed a wave file to the encoders. But there's a limit to the length of this simulated wave file (about 3 hours and 6 minutes with 44.1 kHz stereo 16 bit sound, the 2^31 bytes break), and Ian hasn't implemented feeding raw pcm (yet). Setting it to 8 bit reduces quality, but doubles your recording time.

Honestly, If you're encoding a file of that length, you should be using the encoder application directly.

What about a right-click function to next/previous track buttons, witch would make a random jump to a track?
(Because even if you use shuffled playback it still advances to the next track in the list if you click next.)

Right-clicking the play/pause button already does that.

I would like to see at next version of this Terrific player support
for DVD-Audio playback.I know this format is not popular as normal
CD-Audio but is much higher quality. As you probably know there isn't
much players for PC for this media.Only PowerDVD and the one from
Creative  Sad.For start it isn't necessary to decode MLP and of course
display the graphical menus of the disc.

If you mean DVD-Audio, the one using MPL as music compression, I doubt about it. This because MPL is proprietary (at least it ewas when I checked) and the plugin autor would have to pay some absurdly high fee. I remember I wanted to play a track found on a DVD-Audio got with my Audigy, I had to do some "magik" to get a flac out of it...
sry for the bad news...

I'd like to request the ability to resize the Options & Stuff window, or at least make it wider by a couple dozen pixels. Wink

May I request the ability to use SendMessage to control the simple functions of xmplay? I've seen this request around the forum occasionally, which i hope brings me a little closer to my mob. If the suggestion to enable generic plugin behavior is being considered, i would also be more than willing to code my own plugin for this kind of behavior.

Thanks, Ehtyar.

still missing the option _not_ to bring xmplay to front after adding a file from the explorer (or as i do from total commander) very much..
as far as i can remember, this issue has been already pointed out in the 'suggestions for 3.4' topic but was somehow dropped/forgotten. or were there some kind of problems which have prevented the implementation of this feature?
anywho, this option would make it so much more convenient to create playlists so please consider implementing it.
other than that, i'm completely happy with that nifty playa Smiley

cheers

I believe Ian would have to eschew using DDE to open files for that to work.

*laughs*
That's what I've been trying to tell Ian for months. He already made the window a wee bit wider (thanks), but I still wish it was fully resizable.

That's why i said that it isn't necessary to support MLP decoding
for DVD-Audio.The MLP was a patent from Meridian and now it
is property of Dolby. But the DVD-Audio is a flexible format. It support
both Linear PCM & MLP with sampling ranges from 44.1 to 192KHz
for both PCM 16 & 24Bit analysis. As for channel configuration it support from Stereo to 5.1.
The MLP lossless compression is used normally for high (88.2 to 96Khz) sampling range
multichannel programs or to save disc space in more complicated disc configurations
with multiple formats in it (Stereo,Multichannel & Dolby Digital).
The point is that nowadays someone can author it's own DVD-Audio
discs with only Linear PCM contents very easy. There are enough applications
for that.Look at Wavelab (5 & 6),Minnetonka DiscWelder or Cirlinca DVD Audio Solo.
The last is very affordable software at just $45!.I am using this software with excellent
results  Smiley. That's why i want to enable support for this format. It isn't necessary to play
commercial DVD-Audio titles with CPPM encryption...
It's time to upgrade to a more flexible audio format than the old crap CD  Grin

That sounds like it's the work for a plugin, rather than XMPlay. Find someone to write a plugin for it. Tongue

How about a queue enhancement? We all know how it currently works, but I think we are not using it's full potential.

How about using queue as something you can just throw stuff into while rummaging your library, or HDs or CDs, or surfing the web? Things in queue would get played before things in playlist. Things in queue would vanish after being played. When queue is finally empty XMPlay would resume playing the playlist from the point it left it before stuff started to appear in the queue. Using queue would not disrupt the playlist in any way.

Let's see what this means:

  • Separating playlist and queue from each other. Currently these things occupy the same space.

(We would still be able to throw stuff from playlist to queue if we wanted to play them first. However, throwing stuff into queue would not delete them from the playlist.)

  • The playlist needs to remember the position where it was before stuff was thrown into queue. Playing should resume from that point after queue is finished.
  • A new option/feature: "Integration: Context menu: [ ] Add to XMPlay-queue" is needed.

Currently there are the following query related settings:

  • "Playlist: List advancing: [ ] Stop at end of queue" - Stop, once the end of a queue has been reached.
  • "Playlist: [ ] Show queue in playlist panel" - This shows only queued tracks in the playlist panel. This option is the same as clicking the "Queue" button on the playlist panel.

"Stop at end of queue" would still be Ok, but "Show queue in playlist panel" would need rethinking.

Yes, yes and for the third time yes! Would make the queue much more useful IMO.

Also, one other thing. Would it be possible to split up loop options between MOD formats and the rest? I know there's a MOD only option right now, but I'd want to play MOD's with one loop+fade (as they are generally long, and looping a 20 minutes piece is pure murder) and MIDI's/AHX/etc with two loops+fade (much shorter, so the loop is rather helpful here).

This kind of setup isn't really possible now, right?
