well, it's not really a suggestion, but something I noticed: when I use xmplay from an usb stick, and I use a custom skin, if I open settings window and it overlaps the skin, when I close that window xmplay is stuck for a while, and doesn't respond (the track plays fine tough). I think that's because it read the skin from the disk to redraw it, so I was wondering it's it's possible to add an option/secret setting to always use RAM for storing it after first load on startup or on skin change. Sure this will use more ram, but I suppose it'll fix this annoying (for me) occourence.
Thanx anyway.

I don't think that's a skin issue, but rather the XMPLAY.INI file being updated when closing the Options window (which was added in one of the "stuff" updates). That's probably taking longer than usual due to the slower speed of the USB stick. How long is it taking? If too long, I guess an XMPLAY.INI option could be added to disable it.

Well, it also took about 1-2 seconds on my old system on a normal hard drive. I don't think that it's "too much", but still notable.

mmm, true, it happens with default skin too. well, my usb stick is old and it takes about 3/4 sec, maybe on a new one it's faster, but an option would be nice

That might be because disk cache is normally disabled for pen drives, and I bet that XMPlay is using some WinAPI function like WritePrivateProfileSetting, which results in a few hundred write operations, and the xmplay.ini file is closed and re-opened after each one.

I imagine quite a lot of people are running XMPlay from a USB stick, so a more general solution is probably needed (rather than an option). Here's an update that'll update the XMPLAY.INI file in the background, so that it shouldn't delay anything else... www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

If/when the ability for plugins to add track menu options appears, then a plugin could be created that sends the selected tracks to external apps. I think that would offer greater flexibility than an integrated "external apps" option, ie. it could be used for other things too.
There is one downside to this : All regular users will have to wait for developers to come out with the appropriate plugin for the wanted task. Using commandline can serve for simple tasks as calling taggers , audio editors or even webpages with artist/album tag used as wild-card .

@Ian> Prrrrfect, meow! it writes in the backgroud without stopping me from using XMPlay. Thanks a lot! Ah, yes, it was 3 or 4 seconds, I wouldn't have cared for <1second @amit> I don't think so: it'll be rather easy (I suppose) to make a general pourpose plugin that supports commandline(s) and has a customizable menu entry(s). Sure a native plugin would be cleaner/nicer

To go with the crossfade.. Would it be possible to apply it to manual song changes too? Start to fade out the current song and fading in the new song when (manual) song change is requested?

If you have crossfading enabled, track loop set to AUTO and playlist looping enabled, the first track will play and then correctly crossfade into the next one. But after that, the second one loops over and over (without crossfading).
I don't seem to be able to reproduce that. Are you sure that the 2nd track isn't just detected as loopable, hence it loops as a result of the AUTO looping setting? Bug report update: The bug also happens when playing other types of audio files (FLAC,OGG,WAV,etc). How to reproduce the bug: Enable crossfading, set the track looping to 'Auto Loop', enable the playlist looping and set it to 'auto advance'. Add a dozen tracks to the playlist and play the first one or (any odd numbered track) in the playlist. XMPlay will loop the track over and over. If you play the second track (or any of the even numbered tracks),XMPlay will play it properly, then smoothly crossfade into the next one and loop that track over and over

If that's not it, please confirm the file format, and upload your XMPLAY.INI file in case it's a combination of settings that's causing the problem... ftp.un4seen.com/incoming/File uploaded (xmplay_loop_bug.ini)

Hi! First the obligatory thanks to all the team behind XMPlay, this music player is so good, every version (or stuff) is almost perfect. now, to business: I want so badly a way to save presets for the equalizer (or all the DSP for that matter), I have 3 setups (office speakers, house speakers and headphones) and recreate the equalizer is a painful experience. Best regards

(Unless Ian hides some dwarfs in his basement that code all this stuff... ) I want so badly a way to save presets for the equalizer (or all the DSP for that matter), I have 3 setups (office speakers, house speakers and headphones) and recreate the equalizer is a painful experience. Have you actually tried the "saved settings" in the options dialog. you can save your current DSP config there and load it at any time.

I prefer to code all by myself too, but nothing as complex as XMPlay or BASS. Oh my goodness, there is a lot of XMPlay for me to discover after 3 or 4 years of use. Works fine, thanks

Here's an update to try... www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exeI imagine it could get quite annoying eventually, so before making space for it in the options, it's currently just a shortcut ("Crossfade manual track changes"). Let me know if/when it does get annoying Bug report update: The bug also happens when playing other types of audio files (FLAC,OGG,WAV,etc). How to reproduce the bug: Enable crossfading, set the track looping to 'Auto Loop', enable the playlist looping and set it to 'auto advance'. If you play the second track (or any of the even numbered tracks),XMPlay will play it properly, then smoothly crossfade into the next one and loop that track over and over I'm still unable to reproduce the problem with your config, but I noticed that you have the "Auto loop any track ending with sound" option enabled. I suspect that (in combination with looping set to "auto") is what is resulting in the looping, and the odd/even number thing is probably just a coincidence, ie. the odd numbered tracks happen to end with sound and the even not. Please check whether that is the case, and if it isn't, upload one of the looping files to have a look at.

Crossfade manual track changes There is a bug with pause when this feature is turned on. Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. There must be at least two songs in a playlist 2. Start playing first song, then pause it. 3. Doubleclick on the second song. It should start playing but stucks in a paused state. Everything is OK when the "manual crossfade" feature is turned off.
