Hello All!

Been using xmplay forever now it seems. Not wanting to get rid of it in vista I decided to force it to work nice in vista by adding it to the "Set Default Programs" list.

I found a post about doing the same thing to foobar2000. I was able to apply the same technique for XMPlay. 777 lines of registry keys later, I had XMPlay listed with all of it's default filetypes selectable. Later on I was able to add the directory shell extentions (Add to XMPlay-list, Open with XMPlay) to the file types as well so now you can multiselect your music and open directly in vista.

Notes:
  • This registry file works when XMPlay is located in the following directory path:
    c:\program files (x86)\XMPlay\     (Vista 64bit editions)
However, you can edit to registry file and mass-replace the path with whatever path you happen to have your copy sitting at.
  • Also, this registry file only has filetypes for the default install of xmplay. you will need to add others to it if you want to be able to select them from the Default Programs list in Vista.
  • Do not use this with XP. I have no idea how it will react!

Anways, I thought other Vista users might benefit from this so I wanted to share it!

As a final side note, I had to disable UAC to get vista to stop complaining about the EXE file not being signed by un4seen (expensive procedure, I know). But it might be something worth doing if Windows continues down this path of security.

Please let me know what you think! And feel free to add this to the support site if it's deemed to be good enough.

Again, thanks for the great software over the years and I look forward to 3.5!!
