wma with xmp-wma, but that one seems not to support more than 2 channels :-X.

Oops! That was fixed a while ago and should have been in the last update, I think. It'll definately be in the next update anyway :)

Here's the updated plugin to try in the meantime...

How many channels are there in your files?
6 channels.

Could you give me your e-mail address, and I will send you a new version to test with?

i've tried it, and it works for me ;)

ac3 (raw from dvd) with Valex ac3-decoder (winamp-plugin)
standard wave and ogg with xmplay itself
mp4 (with FAAC 1.24.1)  with the native plugin or the winamp-plugin (the winamp one works perfectly, the native one seems to remap the channels or forget one, cause i don't hear anything on surround right)
wma with xmp-wma, but that one seems not to support more than 2 channels :-X.

at least no freezing here :)

Could you test this one and tell me if you encounter any surround (right) troubles?

I'm not sure if that's the same plugin that Roberto posted in rarewares.org/aac.html on May 25, attributed to MaresWeb... Regardless, it does a much better job grabbing into the WDUQ stream  66.225.205.74:80/listen.pls  than does Winamp.  With Winamp especially, but, to a degree foobar, I kept getting ICY cannot connect errors, yet XMPlay with this codec plays the stream immediately. And it also plays the files I've encoded using an AAC+ enhanced encoder that bsiegel made available for use with dbPoweramp.
A very satisfied user!  ;D

An update is available for xmp-aac. The update includes;

  • A fix for crashing on invalid MP4 files (MP4 files with correct extension, but incorrect file data)
  • A "number of frames" indicator at the main panel (ADTS AAC files only)
  • A few other minor improvements

A minor update is available for xmp-aac. The update includes a correct bitrate and time detection for ADIF AAC files.

Yet a minor update is available for xmp-aac. The update includes a decoder optimization, and the DLL has shrinked a bit.

An update is available for xmp-aac. The update includes a fix for incorrect MP4 file handling (length and seeking on some files would be incorrect) and some other minor changes.

Edit: Updated it again. The update should fix the crashing on some non-valid files (JPGs, GIFs, TXTs and XMLs).

Just to report that I've been trying out the plugin with some of the AAC+ streams which are starting to appear on Shoutcast, and it seems to work fine. Many thanks!

Yes, but I thought that one of the "features" of mp4 is the ability to have it be a container for other formats.  I just wondered if.... :)

MP4 container can contain various audio and videoformats. It can e.g. contain ALAC, or mp3 and xvid and on and on.... This plugin however, are for decoding AAC - in and out of MP4 container.

Yes. exactly. XMPlay also can't play FLAC files if they are wrapped inside an Ogg container, although the introduction page claims Ogg playback. :)

By the way, on their own websites none of the broadcasters streaming in AAC+ currently mentions XMPlay as an option for handling this format - they all say either that Winamp is the only compatible player, or that Winamp and VLC are the only ones.

Well maybe you should drop them a line.

Sorry, I don't think so. This is no doubt part of the more general question of XMPlay's great qualities not being known or appreciated by streamcasters.
