Skin Update: Metrocity v1.9
« on: 24 Jun '21 - 10:49 »
Hi Everyone,

Finished off another one for you all to try, this one hurts my noodle making other themes due to interaction between various bits and pieces so only 3 default themes this time. I've been experimenting a bit with this one but it looks quite nice I think.

The image is relatively easy to change using the source psd available on the support site, so if anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to make other themes I'd love to see them. Or feel free to let me know and I might have a look at making the variation for you.

!!! Make sure you use the latest stuff version or this skin will load slowly. !!!

Layout 1 (Base - All Themes)

Layout 2 (Playlist - All Themes) Note: Layout 3 is identical to this just with no visuals.

Changlog (1.9)

v1.9
  • [all themes] Added vis button back to the display, I'm not entirely sure why I took it out?
  • [other] Added L2 version is Bar style selection of playing songs, note it will make the ext. playlist look odd.
  • [other] L2+Bar version has padding on the right side and different colour text/search for visibility.
v1.8
  • [other] Fixed black line on progress bar in Desert & Space
  • [other] Fixed gradient line visibility in Sakura
v1.7
  • [other] Added Sakura pink theme
  • [all themes] Fixed scroller & scroll bar being incorrect heights
  • [all themes] Playlist footer includes time, search and total songs now
  • [all themes] Some button alignments were off by a pixel or two
  • [all themes] Removed vis button from the display, may add it elsewhere if wanted
v1.6
  • [all themes] reduced border snap buffer by half
  • [other] Added Layout 3 with no visuals
v1.5
  • [all layout 2] playlist offset was incorrect by 1px
v1.4
  • [all themes] Added new layout 2 for all themes, adding the playlist panel to the main mode
    !!! Requires: XMPlay 3.8.6+/Latest Stuff Version !!!
--- Big thanks to Ian for the skinning engine tweaks! ---
v1.3
  • [all themes] gradient & mask revised for better spectrum visibility
v1.2
  • [other] Added Cold black theme
  • [all themes] meter gradient fixes
v1.1
  • Initial Release

This one looks really nice too (just got your other skin, Innocuos).
The desert variant is really nice (

Just 2 small things:

- why does it take so long to load? here it takes a bit too much (compared to any othe skin I used)
- compared to Innocuos, I noticed the snap to border "distance" is bigger; I suppose you can't change that easily right?

Yes, despite being a very beautiful skin (L2 rocks!), the time to load is off-putting enough that it's just not a choice for me.  Innocuous on the other hand just JUMPS to the fore, faster than any skin I used before.

Basically the delay is caused by the visual and the progress bar both overlapping and being huge, I don't close XMPlay much so I didn't see it as a huge problem so didn't think to bother Ian with it. That said I can understand not everyone uses XMPlay the same way, but Ian has seen the thread and is taking a look so with a little luck it'll load more snappily in the near future. ;D

On a side note I've loaded the skin a million times during development so it's also possible I just got used to it. :-X

I think the snap difference is the same but there is no particular reason to have it on this skin as there is no shadow, think I should just remove it entirely/reduce by half?

Yep, XMPlay wasn't handling the initialization of the overlapping position bar and level displays very efficiently. Here's an update to get that done more quickly:

   www.un4seen.com/stuff/xmplay.exe

It will also help with other skins that have overlapping areas, although the difference probably won't be noticeable in most cases (they would have been pretty fast already).

Wonderful, now it's my "regular", thanks Ian and Keltic!  Fast.  And love the enlarged spectrum and display of file format detail.  And did I mention the L2 layout  :)  Looks like a whole different player.

Really nice skin, Keltic Danor.

Is it possible to create version without visualisation in main window (layout 3 ;D )?

Yep, can do. Updated with a version without the visuals & reduced snap distance.

A gorgeous skin, great layout and design. Congratulations on the release.

The included patch_notes.txt mentions "Requires: XMPlay 3.8.6+". As there's no v3.8.6 available yet, to avoid confusion you might want to change it to "Requires XMPlay stuff version 3.8.5.25+ !!!".

Awesome!

There's looks to be bug with Layout 3 Cold and Desert variants while Space is ok. Progress bar is missing in those 2 variants.
Screenshots attached.

Looks like I messed up a couple of things there including the Space one, uploaded fixed ones now.

Digging these new skins, Keltic!

I know these were meant for hidpi screens, so they are a little larger than the average XMPlay skin. For those of us that don't use hidpi screens, would it be possible to provide slightly smaller versions?

Or maybe XMPlay could add a native option to scale down the size of the skin. XMPlay already has a "Big" option under Appearance > Skin. Maybe a "Tiny" or "Medium" option could be created? Or if we could scale by percentage, that would be even better.

Have you given this scaling option a try?  Me, no (I like the originals!) but this may work for you:

It wouldn't be possible for XMPlay or anything automated to shrink them down as this skin (and Axxio for that matter) are a bit too complicated. It should be straight forward for me to make a smaller version for you though.

If you can use this tool to shrink it down to the size you would prefer I'll use it as a template to make the new size for you.
Note that some things such as the progress bar won't actually work properly when shrunk so you'll have to use your imagination a little.

Where do you get XMPlay v3.8.6 from?
The stuff link only gives me XMPlay v3.8.5.27.

Any stuff version will work, I'm just lazy and didn't want have to go and edit all these posts to show 3.8.6 when it does appear. ;D

Just some fixes to add in the new playlist footer (with the times/search/count stats) as per the Innocuous change as well as a bunch of minor fixes and corrections. Also added a new pink theme by request. See first post for full change log details.

If anyone has some other theme/pictures they'd like to see incorporated into the skin let me know. 8)

Edit: Re-uploaded not sure what happened there but L2's were broken in the zip. ???

Hi Keltic:  thanks for the new skins!  I have to admit though to being a stick-in-the-mud for Metrocity Cold L2, which for me has almost everything I'm looking for--a large resizable/dockable visuals window, dark background, an integrated spectrum display, trad. volume control and stop button.

What I wish Metrocity DID have, is the much more readable playlist text on all entries that the dark versions of the new Uno skins here have--like only the "now playing" choice does with Metrocity.  And, using the same kind of "highlight ribbon" from Uno for the Metrocity playing selection.

Any chance of a retro-fit?  Thanks for listening.

Edit:  I miss the Visuals button that was removed in Metrocity  1.7, so I'm still on 1.6.  An add-back on that would be great too.  Wow I better quit while I'm ahead, haha!
I've added back the visual button, I'm not sure why I took it out but I guess I'll remember eventually.

There is a version of L2 with the bar style thing added for testing, it does make the extended playlist window look a bit odd at the moment but I'm trying some longer bars and such to accommodate that in a future update. As far as readability is concerned do you just mean font color or the background lines Uno & Escape have?

If you'd like to tweak colors or fonts don't be afraid to unzip it and edit the skinconfig.txt file. ;D
