Repackaged skins
« on: 7 Dec '21 - 14:07 »
All of the skins featured on the XMPlay webpage that were still using the old skin packaging system have now been converted to the ZIP-based system introduced in XMPlay 3.8. The updates are on the support site too, but there are still many skins on there that are using the old system. The "Rated Alpha" skin was the first to use the new system, so those listed after that when sorting by date are still using the old system:

   http://support.xmplay.com/files.php?id=10&sby=date&rpp=200

The old skins will still work fine, but they are actually compressed DLLs (with built-in decompression code), which means it's technically possible for some anti-virus software to complain about them. If you've encountered any such problems, please report the affected skins and I'll get them converted too.

On that account, I just tried the zip packaged skins on XMPlay 3.8.5 and none of them are showing up, even though the old .xmpskin files still work fine.

Tried with a clean installation, various other .zip skins, and also removing the .xmpskin files so only zipped ones would remain, and they still weren't recognized.

He means that the .xmpskin file is a zip file already, so if you want to modify or look at a skin you can unzip it and do so now for those updated skins. If you zip up a skin it still needs the .xmpskin extension and a .xmpskin file in a zip file won't work.

Ah I see now. I think I used to download from support.xmplay.com instead of www.un4seen.com and skins used to be in the old xmpskin format at the former?

Thanks for the help keltic.

All skins released since December 2013 (when XMPlay 3.8 was released) are using the new xmpskin format, and any released before then are (or were) using the old xmpskin format. A few of the older skins had already been repackaged to use the new format but most of the skins on the XMPlay webpage were still using the old format until the recent mass repackaging mentioned in the first post.
