Problem to play Audio cd.
« on: 18 Aug '03 - 16:31 »
Hi,

I am using a notebook SONY VAIO PCG-Z1 1.49 Ghz running Windows XP. It uses a combo drive MATSHITA UJDA 745 DVD/CDRW

I am unable to play a CD-Audio with the provided CDTEST.EXE demo.
Both BASS.DLL and BASSCD.DLL are version 1.8

I have been trying to change the MATSHITA TAB property from CD-Audio numeric reading from On to Off.
- When OFF BASS.DLL is able to access the audio track but there is no sound.
- When On BASS.DLL is unable to access the audio track.

Could you help?

Chris

I think "numeric" is french for "Digital AudioExtraction" :)

When "Digital AudiExtraction" is ON I can't access to the CD-audio track
When it is ON, then I acces to it but hear no sound.

Is the drive detected, do CD tracks appear in the list, and do the open/lock buttons work?

I guess you mean the built-in CD functions here? (not BASSCD)

If you can play the tracks ("When OFF") but can't hear them... check that you've got the CDROM connected to the soundcard and the CD volume is turned up in the soundcard's mixer. (check for both "analog" and "digital" - it could be either depending on what cable is used)

Ian,

No I am not speaking of the built-in CD function.
I am speaking of BASSCD.DLL not being able to play a CD-Audio that is correctly played with Windows Media Player.

After further investigations I found that the culprit was the default Audio Codec being used in the "sound and audio properties". Once you selected the "Hardware" tab and choose
"Audio codec" then there is list of all audio codecs that are available. The one that was first in the list was "ULEAD DV Audio codec" I changed the list order and I selected "IMA ADPCM Audio Codec" as the first in the list and that solved the problem...

May be the BASSCD.DLL could detect that the default audio codec won't work with CD-Audio and select one that would :)

Thank you.

Are you sure about that - maybe you also changed something else? (eg. the default audio device)

The codecs in that list don't affect the output, they just encode/decode sample data. For example, BASS uses them to decode (non-MPEG) compressed WAV files. So it'd be extremely strange if changing the order affected BASSCD :)
