med converter??
« on: 6 Aug '03 - 19:54 »
Well, I would like to know how could i convert some meds i have to xm or some other format supported by xmplay ;D. What would you guys suggest?
Note: I used modplug for a while before changing to xmplay, and i've tryed the in_modplug thingie and it doesn't play then right (as it is based on the engine used by the latest version of modplug). I converted one or two meds to .xm using an old versiĆ³n of modlug (1.36), and they seem to sound ok, but i would really apreciate your help here ;)

So, there isn't a Winamp plugin to play them? Well, I've never heard of .med files before.. What are they?

OctaMED (Sound Studio). IIRC, it was originally an Amiga tracker, though it's been available for both AmigaOS and Win32 for quite a while now.

Yes, there is a winamp plugin, but it won't work with xmplay (not the modplug one). I was hoping i wouldn't have to install winamp again, but well... :-/ (i used both winamp and modplug before i changed to xmplay). Is there a tracker wich would open meds and let save then as another format? ??? i know modtracker does that, but if it uses the same engine as the modplugpaleyer & plugin, converted and all, it'll sound weird the same... I'll give it a try before deciding to wether install winamp again or not...

There's an Amiga-only (I think) program - MED2XM. It handles all of the filetypes - MMD0, MMD1 and (if I recall corectly) MMD2 (OSS). Obviously it doesn't convert synthetic samples but most of the time the convertion is O.K.
It's downloadable on any Aminet mirror. You can try running it on Fellow or (Win)UAE. Works fine here.
