Clan [XMP]
« on: 21 Feb '03 - 23:05 »
I know that (a) this has little to do with the actual program and (b) this is not yet a general-chat forum, but that other thread was getting too long and too off-topic.

So a few of us (Ralesk, BoggyB, Jacer, Kynes, me, et al.) have expressed interest in UT/CS/UT2K3/Q*, and a few of a few of us would like to start a clan [XMP].  First off, I would like to know Ian's opinion on this, whether he would allow his product to be an endorsement of the clan (or vice versa).  And second off, I would like to know who wants to play what game and when, because by the times that these are posted, we are not all from California as I am.  :P  So...  What do you suppose we do?  All comments are appreciated!  Go clan XMP!

I've no objection. If you want, you can have some space on xmplay.com for a webbie. I imagine pings would be interesting with everyone being from all over the place, but if it's just for a bit of fun, that doesn't really matter... just don't disgrace the flag ;D

Clan [XMP] sounds tough :laugh:, and I'm in. At least for UT. It'd be a good choice, because it's good and runs on most machines these days. It seems others too would like playing it. I've never really played CS, and I don't own it either, so I probably wouldn't go for that one.

Well, I picked up the last copy of Totally Unreal (Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edidtion & Unreal GOLD) at my local Electronics Boutique, but the installer or CD is busted.  The search goes on. :'(

Well, if you've bought the game and it didn't work, then I'd say you have a right to even get a pirate copy somewhere.. there should be some around.

Let's not get into a discussion of p1r4t1ng UT or whatever in case this becomes the first ever modded thread on this board (I think - not being an admin/mod, I don't know for certain)...

Ian, Ralesk, Olego et al: I would be happy to design/manage a clan [XMP] website. I've got a couple of layout ideas, and will post screenshots soon.
I've got one question (for Ian): what server-side technologies are available on un4seen.com (e.g. ASP, PHP, Perl, JSP)?

I don't think you can use ASP, but it's got the rest... SSI, CGI, Perl, PHP, MySQL.

And it'd actually be on xmplay.com - makes more sense ;D

Right... I'll have to rethink my ideas - they rely on ASP for scripts and menus. I'll have to port it to PHP or something.

IMHO, PHP is better/easier than ASP, but I can't code either for crap. :P

PHP = goodie :)

and don't rely on javascript if possible. (well, it IS possible ;))
Same goes for flash, I hate flash.  And good looking pages can be done with HTML 4.0 Strict and CSS 2.0 --- and will look decent in IE and Mozilla (and often in Opera)

If you need HTML/CSS bugtracking, I'm here.  I code HTML asleep.
