"MP3-free" version of Bass
« on: 9 Aug '09 - 08:41 »
Hi all. I contacted Thomson the other day about Mp3 Licensing. Part of the response I got was:

"If your software does not play mp3 files but rather it calls the Windows Media Player in the PC to play them then you don't need to sign a license agreement with us."

Would this be what the "Mp3-free" version of Bass does? No license fee for that particular issue then?  ???

By the way, to the developers of Bass, THANK YOU for your amazing product. My partner and I will be licensing with you in a month or so.  ;D

Yes, the "mp3-free" BASS.DLL version uses Windows' MP3 codec to decode MP3 files, so you do not require an MP3 patent licence to use it.
