PHP = goodie :)

It'll be in PHP. It's going to tie into the forum software anyway, and YaBBse/MySQL works well.

and don't rely on javascript if possible. (well, it IS possible ;))

Any javascript will be for things that need it. I do not like sites which need JavaScript enabled to work.

Same goes for flash, I hate flash.

Me too. Especially flash-based navigation.

And good looking pages can be done with HTML 4.0 Strict and CSS 2.0 --- and will look decent in IE and Mozilla (and often in Opera)

Funny you should say that... It's HTML 4.0 (not necessarily strict, but no frames) with pure CSS for the formatting. There's going to be a "make printer-friendly" server script because the pages are not printer-friendly at the moment. The only images are for logos and pictures, not fancy navigation bars and borders, although it looks like I'm using a few when I'm not :)

I hope that's a figure of speech... ;D

If you want [to have clan.xmplay.com] :)

It makes sense as a URL (like support.xmplay.com), so lets have it for our clan then. Thanks.

Though, this forum is an original CGI YaBB, the best I recall.

I fiddle around with stuff on my web server at home (Win2k/IIS5, isolated from the internet so its just for development) and it took exception to YaBB CGI and YaBB Perl. Decided to try YaBB SE, worked fine, and in any case it uses MySQL rather than binary data files. I plan to make a few pages load stuff from the forum (like the news board will have the 3 most recent topics displayed on the home page) so I won't have to re-upload pages just to add a new post or something.

I use Win2k and Apache 2, and it works like a charm for most stuff ^_^

As for CGI vs. IIS, I suggest ActivePerl, it has always worked for me!

If you have a look at the new clan site you'll find a placeholder page (knocked up in 5 secs in FrontPage) that'll be there while I get the rest sorted. It shows you what colour scheme I've got in mind, but any suggestions welcome.

There's another server which runs the same type but with demo maps only - its at 10.23.54.103:7878 (that's the same IP but port 7878. Don't worry, I've got enough power in my box to run multiple servers). Download the demo from the Unreal website

Yesterday's post *was* an april fools joke - the IP address (10.x.x.x) is actually a non-routeable address reserved for home/business networks (others are 169.254.x.x and 192.168.0.x). But it's not all bad - I *did* get round to updating the website... 8)

(If you're wondering why, then that is what happens when you get a day off school on April 1st and you've got nothing to do

The link for the demo was *not* an April Fools joke - it's in the download section there (but it's 50-odd meg so dial-up users be warned)

<edit>Just realised something: that post was after noon so technically it's too late to be april fools. oops :-[</edit>

I finally updated it!

Sorry about the delay, I had other things (like A-level exams) on.

Alpha, Olego & Ralesk: do you want a page on the site or a link to your website? If you want a page there then send it to me and I will add it.

Everyone: I would like feedback on the layout and design of the site. Also, if you know of any good Unreal* servers then let me know.

Memo to self: don't use a php include command in the YaBB SE template as it screws everything up ;D

It's ok; nothing fancy, but serves its purpose well :).

You can provide a link if you wish, although my site still isn't uploaded. The address is the same as the one I have on my profile here.
